In nine games this season, the New York Islanders have only won one game.
But even more than that, five of those nine have gone into overtime, with three of those going to shootouts
While the Islanders do get a point for making it to overtime even with their opponent, it is hurting the team because in many cases they had leads going into the third period, and then let the opponent back in the game.
For example, in last Saturday's game vs the Washington Capitals, the Islanders led 2-0 with just under 17 minutes left to go in the third period.
But the Islanders defense let in two goals before the end of regulation, and then in overtime Brooks Laich scored a goal which sealed the win for the Capitals.
