The Minnesota Wild traded former fourth overall pick Benoit Pouliot to the Montreal Canadiens for 22 year-old Guillaume Latendresse Monday afternoon.
Both players had struggled to acclimate to their NHL clubs after promising junior careers. Pouliot spent the majority of his professional career moving back and forth between Minnesota and the Wild's AHL affiliate in Houston. Pouliot had career highs in both games played, 37, and points, 11, in 2008-09 but never lived up to the billing of a fourth overall choice.
Latendresse spent significantly more time in the NHL than Pouliot and scored 29, 27, and 26 points in his past three seasons. Latendresse is known as a player who is not afraid to play physically in the offensive zone, but his defense may be suspect.
