Traditionally the trade deadline has been a time for General Managers of clubs hoping to make the playoffs or have a shot at the Stanley Cup to improve their team. Also the teams at the lower end of the standings have used this time to acquire young players and draft picks to help in their rebuilding efforts.
After a hectic day of wheeling and dealing on March 3, 2010 the trade dealine had passed. Some General Managers were able to make a large impact on their team's playoff fortunes on that fateful day, and many players were set to move their gear to new locker rooms.
