The Rangers were briefly tied for eighth place yesterday until the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3, pulling two points ahead of the Blueshirts.
The Rangers now have just four games left, they play back-to-back nights starting tomorrow against the Sabres and then again Wednesday against the Maple Leafs. They close out the season with two games against the Flyers.
To prepare for those games the Rangers have sent center Corey Locke back down to Hartford and recalled winger Dale Weise. The reasoning for this seems to be that John Tortorella likes to give the rookies a brief cup of coffee before sending them down for more seasoning. Locke played in three games last week, scored no points, but had a plus-one rating.
