The Montreal Canadiens are in talks with the free agent defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron.
Bergeron, who played last season witháthe Minnesota Wild, scored 14 goals (seven on the power play) and added 18 assists in 2008-09.á
Bergeron's career started with the Edmonton Oilers in 2001. He has also played for the New York Islanders, Anaheim Ducks and, most recently, the Wild.
Bergeron's reputation definitely precedes him as being a fast-skating defenseman with a knack for end-to-end rushes. His other accomplishments in the NHL include back-to-back victories in the hardest shot competition.
Bergeron has been traded three times in his career. The first came in 2007 when he was traded to the Islanders with a third-round draft pick for Denis Grebeshkov.
