Flyers defenseman Randy Jones cleared waivers on Monday, and has been assigned to the Adirondack Phantoms along with left wing Patrick Maroon according to Ryan Bright of Philabright.com.
Jones, who was placed on waivers Saturday, will still earn his $3 million salary, however his contract comes off the salary cap. In simple words, the Flyers are responsible for the money owed to Jones but it will not count against the $56.8 million salary cap.
Ole-Kristian Tollefsen or Danny Syvret will replace Jones in the everyday lineup while the other sits out as a healthy scratch.
The move clears the way for the Flyers to sign forward tryout Blair Betts to a contract, which should happen as soon as today. Betts is expected to make the team along with forwards James van Riemsdyk and Mika Pyorala.
