Many players in the NHL have lived to tell such a tale. Chances are these players can't talk about it without grimacing.
This style of play has earned San Jose Sharks' defenseman Douglas Murray the nickname "Crankshaft," or "Cranky" for short.
Is there really a more fitting nickname for anyone in the league? Arguably not.
Unless I'm living in an alternate universe, you probably don't hear Murray's name very often during NHL highlights. But you can probably hear the ground quake below you when he makes a big hit.
In 32 games this season, Murray finds himself tenth in the NHL and second on the team in hits with 96. This is a nice encore to his 175 hits that he piled up in 75 games last season.
