There have been ongoing talks that the Vancouver Canucks were looking to re-sign center Ryan Kesler for some time now. Today, the deal has reportedly happened, and Kesler can now enjoy an absolutely ridiculous contract of $30 million over six years.
This signing has to be one of the single worst contracts I have ever seen given out, right on par with Wade Redden’s with the New York Rangers.
Kesler has been in the league since the 2003-04 season and not once has he ever eclipsed 26 goals in a season. He currently has 21 this season, which would put him on pace for his career high. He has achieved a career high in points this season with 66.
But is a 26-goal scorer really worth $5 million a year?
