Mike Richards said in his pregame press conference that the fans of Philadelphia deserved having the Eastern Conference Finals clincher played on the Wachovia Center ice.
He said that they deserved it for sticking behind the team through the whirlwind of a season they had.
A couple of hours later, Richards carried the Prince of Wales Trophy into the Flyers locker room, after leading his team to a Stanley Cup Finals showdown with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Richards put his body on the line once more, played a hard 22 minutes, and recorded three points as the Flyers slayed the Montreal Canadiens with a 4-2 win in Monday night's Game 5 at the Wachovia Center.
