The San Diego Chargers have released long-time running back LaDainian Tomlinson after nine seasons with the team.
Tomlinson was notified today by Chargers President Dean Spano, that he was to be released.
The move comes after speculation that the running back, who set the NFL single-season record for touchdowns in a season (31) during the 2006 season, had played his last game in a Chargers uniform and would not return for the 2010-2011 season.
Many believe the success of Chargers RB Darren Sproles coupled with Tomlinson's lack of productivity recently, along with a great chance to clear salary cap to be the leading factors in his release. He was schedule to receive a $2 million dollar bonus at the beginning of spring.
Tomlinson put up amazing numbers while playing with the Chargers.
