According to team sources, the New York Jets have announced that they intend to release star running back Thomas Jones on Friday due to a breakdown in contract negotiations that have been on-going since last season. The 5'10" 212-pound running back will become a free agent in March and is likely to be one of the top free agents available on the market. He was set to receive a $3-million bonus in March had he been re-signed. The nine-year veteran's last three seasons with the Jets have been some of his most productive, including last year's performance in which he helped the Jets reach the AFC Championship game.
