The Detroit Lions began the 2009 season in similar fashion to their 2008 debacle.
There are many areas of the Lions performance which have to improve in order for the Lions to win there first game.
In this writers opinion the Lions will not win a game in 2009 if their defense does not improve, especially the secondary.
The Lions secondary was exposed as a joke in the 45-17 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Drew Brees picked the secondary apart throwing 6 TD's and 358 yds.
No one in the Lions backfield had a good game. Rookie Louis Delmas had the highlight returning a fumble 65 yds for TD.
Anthony Henry had an interception, but the secondary game up several big pass plays including TD's of 39 yds to Robert Meachem and 58 yards to Devery Henderson.
Brees was able to complete 26 of 34 passes.
