On the same day the Detroit Lions were forced to stop their final minicamp practice early because of a massive team brawl, team President Tom Lewand was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The news was first reported by WXYZ-TV.
Apparently Lewand was arrested on Friday night near Houghton Lake in Roscommon County, and then released. He released this statement Saturday.
"I am deeply sorry for my actions and take full responsibility for them. As a person in active recovery, I am committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure nothing like this ever happens again."
Lewand, the guy who replaced Matt Millen as Lions President in 2008, is often overlooked by the man who replaced Matt Millen as Lions GM, Martin Mayhew.
