Favre has apparently found a fountain of youth in Minnesota, passing for 4,000-plus yards and 33 touchdowns, with only 7 interceptions. If he decides to play next season, he will become one of 13 players (excluding kickers and punters) to do so in the modern era. In other words, since the AFL-NFL merger of 1970.
Many other notable football players celebrated their 40th birthdays while still playing professionally, including: Johnny Unitas, Jim Thorpe, Bruce Smith, Clay and Bruce Matthews, Junior Seau, and Len Dawson among others.
However, the list drops off dramatically after 40. There have just been 12 players (again, excluding kickers and punters) to do so thus far.
