Though the San Francisco 49ers finished two games behind the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West, they had a better division record (5-1) and swept the Cardinals during the 2009 season. The retirements of Kurt Warner and Bertrand Berry, the trade of Anquan Boldin, and the free agent defections of Karlos Dansby and Antrel Rolle have all arguably positioned the 49ers to overtake the two-time defending division champions and make their first playoff appearance since 2002.
