There is a common notion in the NFL . You can draft a wide receiver in the first round, but banking on him being an immediate impact player is like hoping to win the lottery. It's just a rarity, is all. Even Calvin Johnson wasn't a home run hit in his rookie season. Neither were Larry Fitzgerald, Javon Walker, and so many others. It's very rare that teams are blessed with an Anquan Boldin who catches 101 passes in his first year, or Randy Moss who grabs 17 touchdowns.
