One of the main reasons the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the NBA's most successful franchises is due to the fact that they have pulled off several remarkable trades over the years.
Acquiring Sedale Threatt prior to the 1991-92 season is a prime example. The Lakers picked up the veteran guard from the Seattle SuperSonics in a trade in which they gave up three future second-round picks.
The Lakers hoped that Threatt would come in and play behind superstar point guard Earvin "Magic" Johnson. However, little did they know that a month later, Johnson would retire (due to contacting HIV) leaving the team's playoff chances in limbo.
