The NBA draft is a unique process in professional sports.
The 14 teams that do not make the playoffs all have a shot of obtaining the top pick of the draft by way of a lottery.
What most people don't realize though, is that the lottery process determines only the first three picks of the draft and no more.
The teams that were in the lottery process, but were not one of the three teams, then join the rest of the teams, who are selected based on their win/loss record for the regular season.
