The Philadelphia Phillies announced Monday afternoon that they have locked up All-Star slugging first baseman and former Rookie of the Year and National League MVP to a new 5-year, $125 million contract extension with a club option for another year. The option year could could Howard another $23 million in 2017.
Howard's big money extension kicks in 2012 when he will be among the highest paid players in the league. Dollars aside, most important for Phillies fans is their big first baseman and power source is now locked up through the prime of his career.
