The Marlins won seven of eight after defeating the Mets, 12-4, at Citi Field on Thursday night. Unfortunately for them, they gained no games in the Wild Card standings during that stretch.
The Rockies never lose these days, and before the Marlins took on the Mets this evening, they realized they could not lose further ground in the standings after the Rockies swept the Reds Thursday afternoon to extend their winning streak to seven.
The Marlins trail the Rockies by five-and-a-half games in the Wild Card standings heading to Tuesday's showdown against the Mets. Had they lost the series or got swept, they would have been behind by eight games, and for all intents and purposes, it would have been over.
