I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and find that Theo Epstein and the Boston Red Sox were just making a joke about trading Mike Lowell. A joke in extremely poor taste, no doubt, but a joke nonetheless.
Theo has made some terrible moves in the past, to be sure. He got Real Big Eyes after the World Series title in 2004 and declined to resign shortstop Orlando Cabrera, opting for Edgar Renteria. What's it been, eight different shortstops since then (and a new one promised for 2010)?
And, in recent years, Epstein gave Red Sox fans JD Drew, who is a minimal-effort guy and one the dullest baseball players ever, as well as two rehabbing pitchers, John Smoltz and Brad Penny, who got better last season when befuddled pitching coach John Farrell threw up his hands and gave up.
