News broke today that Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington used and tested positive for cocaine during the 2009 season, according to MLB.com . Washington disclosed he used cocaine once during the first half of the season before informing Rangers management about the infraction. He subsequently entered a rehabilitation center and offered his resignation to Rangers management.
"I am truly sorry for my careless, dangerous, and frankly stupid behavior last year," said Washington at a press conference attended by Rangers' brass, including team president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels, and nearly the entire Rangers roster.
