As the spring games roll on, the focus is going to shift greatly to the pitchers, where there are quite a few interesting battles brewing. Let’s take a look at how things played out in today’s games:
The Yankees-Rays game was full of young pitchers with varying results. The Rays’ duo of David Price (1.2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K) and Jeremy Hellickson (1.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K) looked good. The Yankees’ duo of Phil Hughes (2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K) and Joba Chamberlain (1.1 IP, 5 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 1 K) were not as impressive, especially Chamberlain. Joba had been suffering from flu-like symptoms earlier in the week, but given how significantly he was out pitched by Hughes, you have to wonder if it puts him behind in the battle for the fifth starter spot ...
