As I mentioned last week , Tuffy Rhodes started 1994 with a bang. He hit three homers on Opening Day and only 10 more in his major league career. If you jumped on him because of his big day in 1994, you would have probably been rather disappointed with the rest of his season.
Like Rhodes, other players will have a hot Week 1 and their statistics will seem overblown. Though no one had a huge Opening Day anything close to Tuffy, there were some very surprising first weeks of the season that few people expected.
Jeff Francoeur (.429 BA, 81 HR, 243 RBI, 122 R, if he keeps up his current pace), Placido Polanco (.579 BA, 41 HR, 324 RBI, 284 R at this pace), and Vernon Wells (.500 BA, 162 HR, 284 RBI, 284 R at his current pace) all look like their expectations have been fulfilled and then some if ...
