Spring training is where a player in a certain sport gets back to playing shape. When preseason games are being played, the players only play half of the games. Chase Headley looks almost in midseason shape. He led the majors this spring with 21 runs batted in.
“It’s more a credit to how guys have gotten on and how we’ve run the bases. I like the way the lineup shapes up, top to bottom,” said Headley, who batted .298 for the spring.
He is the leading candidate to have a breakout season for the San Diego Padres. His bat can help give Adrian Gonzalez the needed support to make the team a contender in the National League West.
He will start the season at third baseman and batting fifth in the line-up.
