Well, the wait is over. The Leafs will finally officially announce Dion Phaneuf as the 17th captain in team history.
Even though Ron Wilson let the cat out of the bag in April, now it’s time for the standard press conference where Dion will be formally introduced as the new leader. The Leafs will also show off their snazzy new jersey design at the presser as well. The festivities will get ...
Last season saw the Tampa Bay Lightning post a 34-36-12 record which was good enough for fourth place in the Southeast Division, and 12th overall in the Eastern Conference. This has led them to selecting with the sixth overall pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles, Calif., June 25-26.
It was a season that saw the Lightning average 15,469 fans per game at the St. Pete Times Forum, ...

The first of July, the opening of the National Hockey League's free agency period, marks the beginning of another 11-month journey for glory for each of the league's 30 clubs. Every year at this time, general managers scramble to improve their respective franchises in hopes of seeing their own captain holding the coveted Stanley Cup high above their head at the end of the next season, in place of Chicago's Jonathan Toews.
As evidenced ...

After dominating much of the competition throughout the entirety of the 2009-2010 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup in what feels like an eternity. In reality it was only 49 years. But the excitement from their accomplishment will be hindered by the reality that many of the pieces to the puzzle will be gone come next year.
Although they still have a large amount of celebrating to do, ...
Free Agent Frenzy: Does Brian Burke Dare Add More Depth on Maple Leafs’ Defense?
Posted: 13th June 2010 by Jon Neely in NHL
If the Toronto Maple Leafs are deep at any position, it's certainly on defense. With the additions of Dion Phaneuf, Mike Komisarek, and Francois Beauchemin at various points last season, they'll start next season with a strong core of both offensive minded defenders and stay at home guys as well.

As a Devils fan, I am glad to see this. The Devils need a pure puck-moving defenseman and Tomas Kaberle is that.
The Blackhawks are not ...

Now that the Stanley Cup has been awarded and the Chicago Blackhawks’ parade has been held, it is time to look back at this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.
There were upsets. There were moments of jubilation. There were Cinderella stories.
With about two months of postseason play, it is difficult to choose the cream of the crop of the 2010 NHL postseason.
In my opinion, here are the top 10 ...
All the talk and headlines rescently about the 2010 FIFA World Cup has made many fans forget that the World Cup of Hockey is just around the corner. Obviously the hockey event is rather a fly-on-the-wall compared to the World Cup, which draws over a billion viewers, but it will still be played in the 2011 offseason. This makes me think of where these games should be held. If history ...
In recent reports from TSN's Darren Dreger, it appears another two teams have entered the Tomas Kaberle Sweepstakes.
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers have also emerged as possible suitors for Kaberle. Given the no trade clause is lifted before the draft, Kaberle does not have any approval as to where he goes, so these teams reamin real possibilities.
From the Panthers, I expect either Nathan Horton or Stephen Weiss coming ...
