Raiders Offseason Shows a Clear Change in Oakland’s Defensive Philosophy
Posted: 14th June 2010 by David Wilson in NFL
What has been abundantly clear over the last 12 months is that the Oakland Raiders have had a total change in their defensive philosophy.
Since their last appearance in a Super Bowl in 2002-03, when their defense ranked third against the run, they have never ranked better than 22nd in any year.
That is seven years of abysmal run defense.
Their personnel strategy during that time concentrated on the defensive secondary, leaving the ...
Six NFL Quarterback Battles To Watch Heading into Training Camp
Posted: 14th June 2010 by Ben Heck in NFL
In July and August when NFL teams begin their training camps, most coaches are concerned about one thing—their starting quarterback.
The quarterback is, without a doubt, the most important position on the field, not just on the offensive side of the ball.
Some head coaches are fortunate enough to have a highly talented signal caller who can step in right away and make an impact.
But others will have to search for their ...
Five NFL Teams Primed to Overtake the New Orleans Saints in the NFC
Posted: 14th June 2010 by Paul Augustin, Jr. in NFL
To repeat as winners of the NFC (NFL from 1966-1970) is more rare of a feat than repeating as Super Bowl champion.
There have been eight occasions in which a team has repeated as Super Bowl champs, but only seven times has a team hoisted the George Halas Trophy in consecutive years.
Only on three of those seven instances has the NFC winner also brought home Super Bowl glory both times.
You ...
Vince Young is screwed, and so are the Tennessee Titans.
The Dallas Police Department issued Titans' quarterback Vince Young a Class C assault citation for his role in a Sunday morning altercation at a strip club in Dallas.
One person was injured and officials have reviewed a tape and interviewed witnesses before issuing the citation (punishable up to $500).
The altercation allegedly broke out in a back office after words were exchanged at ...
The unpredictability of sports is one of its greatest attractions. We all expect the dominant teams and players to capture the titles they are favored to win. However, it is the teams and players that come out of nowhere to capture a championship who are remembered forever. The unexpected is what makes sports intriguing. Some sports see unlikely champions more often than others. These ten ...
Blessing in Disguise: Absent RFAs Help the Cleveland Browns Improve Their Depth
Posted: 13th June 2010 by Daniel Wolf in NFL
The Cleveland Browns may have gained an advantage over other teams this offseason by having five unsigned restricted free agents (RFAs), three of whom have not showed up for any of the offseason program.
You may be thinking how they gained an advantage.
The answer is simple—the Browns have been able to get younger players opportunities to get reps during the offseason due to the RFAs who have missed all the reps, ...
Tennessee Titans QB Vince Young Issued Citation for Strip Club Assault
Posted: 13th June 2010 by Jonathan Cyprowski in NFL
Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young was issued a Class C assault citation early Sunday morning.
The citation came after an exchange that turned violent around 3:30 AM in the back office of Club Onyx. Security cameras in the strip club showed Young charging and throwing a punch at a man after he appeared to flash an upside-down longhorn’s sign at him during a verbal exchange.
After reviewing the security footage and interviewing ...

Posted: 13th June 2010 by Geremy Graham in NFL
With training camp right around the corner, it's time to analyze one of the big question marks the Philadelphia Eagles will look to answer by the time the 2010 season rolls around.
The offensive line.
We all know Andy Reid loves to have a big, strong offensive line. It is the foundation for any successful team.
The Birds have talent at all the different positions along the O-line. The only obstacle that must be overcome is ...
Cleveland Browns Minicamp: Eric Mangini Up to His Old Tricks as Camp Closes

Let me say this, I like Eric Mangini as a head coach and he has done a remarkable job turning around the Browns.
I’m not talking about wins—they will come.
The changes I’m talking about have to do with the work ethic the team now has and the character on the team. The team now has heart, and it’s 53 hearts beating as one.
At least that’s what I saw ...
Every year during the NFL season there is at least one team that always that surprises people, exceeding expectations and sneaking into the playoffs.
In '08 it was Atlanta and Miami, and last season the New York Jets, just to name a few.
