On Wednesday, Carrie Muskat wrote an article in which she said that "There are no deals pending, no scouts scouring other rosters to find help."
It wasn't a quote from Jim Hendry. It was just a line added into the article between quotes from the Cubs' general manager.
More specifically, it came immediately before the following quote from Hendry:
"There really isn't anywhere to look," Hendry said. "I would think our ...
Florida Marlins Always Suspected Philadelphia Phillies of Sign Stealing
Posted: 14th May 2010 by Joseph Jones in MLB
As it turns out, the Florida Marlins had suspected the Phillies were guilty of stealing signs long before the Philadelphia bullpen coach was caught gazing through binoculars at Coors Field earlier in the week, which has led to a reprimand from Major League Baseball.
"We've always had our suspicions," said Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said that the way the tiered bullpens are configured in Philadelphia, ...

The Friday game for the Colorado Rockies against the Washington Nationals has been called due to rain. As Denver tries to impersonate Seattle, the Rockies lose their third game of the year to the weather, and the second one this week.
After watching the slop the two teams played in Thursday night, there should have been another rain out.
The game will be made up tomorrow (Saturday) at 12:10 Mtn. Then the ...
Five Ways the Seattle Mariners Can Fix Their Hitting Woes
Posted: 14th May 2010 by Dan Tylicki in MLB
The Mariners' hitting is, to be blunt, very bad.
As an Indians fan, I think of my team's hitting, and think to myself, it could be worse. We could have the Mariners' hitting.
They are last in runs, home runs, and slugging percentage, and nearly last in batting average, hits, and other categories.
So the question is, how do we fix this?
Clearly, the Mariners are still in the hunt in ...
There's no doubt the New York Yankees has had some pretty good prospects over the years: Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, and Derek Jeter. These days' prospects are Jesus Montero, Francisco Cervelli, Austin Jackson (who left via trade), and Phil Hughes.
Austin Jackson was supposed to be the starting center-fielder, but Brian Cashman traded him for Curtis Granderson, who is now injured. Jackson is thriving as the leadoff guy as ...
Welcome back to this running series on the Cleveland Indians titled, "The Problem," where we examine one issue surrounding the current club. Although there is probably more than one problem with the Indians, you have to fix one issue at a time. Today's problem involves the club's biggest star, Grady Sizemore, and the lack of power production. Not only has the power not been there, Sizemore hasn't even been ...

Does American Sport Follow the American Dream?
Posted: 14th May 2010 by Brian 'Carolina' Rhodes in MLB
This may seem like a strange idea to think of in the land of the free (and the home of the brave), but the wide world of sports in America could be termed as the land of supporting Communism. Could a country that is based on free market economics and laissez-faire attitude be equated to be the same as the dreaded “reds under the bed"? Just look ...
Young Guns Grip It And Rip It: The Top 5 Power Hitters Under 23
Posted: 14th May 2010 by Jeff Wahl in MLB
We all know the names of guys like Pujols, Fielder, Howard, Teixeira, and Rodriguez. They've been the league leaders in power numbers for most of this past decade.
But now that 2010 is here and a new decade has dawned, who is poised to step into the limelight? Who among the nameless, faceless masses is ready to become the next HR king?
My criteria is as follows:
Player must be no ...
Are They for Real? The San Diego Padres Continue To Rack Up Wins
Posted: 14th May 2010 by Todd Kaufmann in MLB
Prior to Opening Day, a radio host in Dallas called the San Diego Padres "horrible." Of course, he wasn't the only skeptical media member.
Matt Baxendell of MLBCenter.com put the Padres in last place in the NL West, with fewer than 70 wins. To fulfill Baxendell's prediction, San Diego would have to finish 48-80 the rest of the way. Barring injury, I just don't see that happening.
None of the ESPN writers ...
