Mets Try to Rebound, Hope to Split Against Nats
Posted: 4th July 2010 by Flushing Baseball Daily in MLB
The Mets had an excellent opportunity to guarantee at least a series split, maybe even a series win last night, but Francisco Rodriguez couldn’t hold it for them.
He, along with the Mets, try to rebound. Courtesy of NewYorkMets on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/NewYorkMets/status/17724997077 here is this afternoon’s lineup, with comments and notes from me:
1. Angel Pagan – CF Pagan stays in the leadoff spot because Jose Reyes still is unable to ...
There will be no 4th of July fireworks for Shin-Soo Choo who leads the Cleveland Indians with 13 Home Runs. Fan favorite Choo was placed on the 15 day disabled list retroactive to July 3rd. He suffered a Right thumb sprain while attempting a diving catch in right field Friday night against the Oakland A’s. Michael Brantley was called up from Triple A Columbus to fill the outfield spot. ...
After the 1950 season, Joe DiMaggio was asked to select his greatest game. DiMaggio explained that he had to choose two games because each involved the fans. "I will compromise and pair two thrills as my greatest. They have one thing in common: both were given to me by the fans." DiMaggio selected the penultimate game of the 1949 season played ...
Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Options: Week 14 (July 5-11)
Posted: 4th July 2010 by Eric Stashin in MLB
It’s time to look at the potential two-start options for the upcoming fantasy week. If I have someone rated as a three, four or five-star option, he is someone I would definitely use. A two-star option is someone who is borderline, but I’d strongly lean against it unless I have no other options. The one-star options are an absolutely-not scenario.
So, with that said, let’s take a look at the players ...
Boston Red Sox Cruise Through Game 81, Half Game Out of First AFter First Half
Posted: 4th July 2010 by Jeffrey Brown in MLB
Eighty-one games…that is the midpoint of the season.
Admit it, Red Sox Nation, if you knew what you know right now back on Opening Day you would have been thrilled to be 17 games over .500 and just a half game behind the NY Yankees on Independence Day (by the way, happy 4th of July to everyone!).
On April 4, we knew about Daisuke Matsuzaka’s injury…but what we didn’t know about was ...
Famous Fourth of July Moments: Lou Gehrig’s “Luckiest Man On Earth” Speech
Posted: 4th July 2010 by Mihir Bhagat in MLB
The Fourth of July is best known as the anniversary of the date on which the United Stated proudly declared their independence from Britain, now 234 years ago. Today, we celebrate the day by spending time with family and friends, hosting BBQs, watching fireworks, and most importantly, remembering the forefathers of our great nation.
Meanwhile, this day in history is also a memorable one in the world of sports. On July ...
With the Mets starting rotation in a groove right now, all eyes are becoming trained on what could be a more pressing issue. The bullpen has gradually begun to cost the Mets games. The issue has flown under the radar because of the propensity of fans to attack the pitching of Johan Santana and to focus too much on acquiring a big time starter like Cliff Lee; a move that ...
Fantasy Baseball Around the Majors, July 3: Jimenez, Strasburg, and More

The struggles of Ubaldo Jimenez continue, but will he be able to rebound? Could Wade Davis’s time in the major leagues be in jeopardy? Is Matt LaPorta now a usable option in all formats since returning from the minor leagues? Let’s look at these questions and all the rest from yesterday’s games:
Pitchers:
Ubaldo Jimenez (6.0 IP, 7 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 5 K) - Colorado Rockies - He ...
Brandon Phillips: Why You Must Sell High on the Cincinnati Reds’ Second Baseman
Posted: 3rd July 2010 by Nick Kappel in MLB
Through 82 team games (324 at-bats) this season, Reds’ second baseman Brandon Phillips is tied with Boston’s Kevin Youkilis for the major league lead in runs, with 62.
Phillips also has 10 homers and 10 steals at the mid-way point, putting him on pace for his fourth consecutive 20/20 season.
Perhaps the most surprising stat, however, is Phillips’ batting average. In 4.5 seasons with the Reds, Phillips has never finished with a batting ...
Why Cliff Lee Has No Shot at Coming to The Bronx This Season
Posted: 3rd July 2010 by Jason Kim in MLB
Many Yankees fans have been hoping that Cliff Lee would end up in New York this season via trade with the Seattle Mariners.
But it will never happen.
The Yankees seem content with the current starting rotation: Javier Vasquez has turned around and A.J. Burnett seems to be coming back to his usual form as well after a miserable June.
Believe it or not, the Yankees have a budget. Which was one of the ...
