Santonio Holmes Gets Plaxico’d By Pittsburgh Steelers
Posted: 12th April 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
In 2004, the Steelers had arguably the best receiving corps in football, highlighted by the ever dependable Hines Ward still in his prime and the matchup nightmare that was Plaxico Burress.
Burress was easiliy one of the best wide receivers in football, a player with a rare blend of size, speed, and athleticism. In terms of talent, he justified the number eight overall pick used on him.
He was almost uncoverable against man ...
Pittsburgh Steelers Should Consider Drafting John Skelton
Posted: 7th April 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
The uncertainty surrounding the Ben Roethlisberger situation is a clear and present challenge for the Steelers.
While the Steelers are likely in no rush to move on without the superstar quarterback, they face the possibility of losing Roethlisberger to a suspension in the short-term. There is little they can do to mitigate this possibility.
If Roethlisberger is indicted, which seems like a real possibility, I’d be amazed if he isn’t suspended. And the ...
Creating the Perfect Pittsburgh Steelers Draft (Satire)
Posted: 6th April 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
After consulting my crystal ball, I've seen the future and know exactly how the Steelers' draft will turn out. And it will be a great one.
With their first-round pick, they select Ndamukong Suh. I know that he is supposed to be the best player in the draft, but on the day of the draft, the shocking fact that nobody named Suh, or Ndamukong for that matter, has ever succeeded in ...
Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2010 Defense Will Be One of the Oldest
Posted: 1st April 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
I recently wrote an article cautioning that the Steelers’ defense is getting old. A few people who commented indicated that this is always the case with the Steelers since they play veterans over younger players.
While it is true that the Steelers sometimes take their time in working younger players into the lineup, an analysis of prior defenses proves this not to be the case.
Steelers’ defenses have traditionally been much younger ...
Predicting Pittsburgh Steelers First-Round Draft Board
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
In trying to determine who is likely to be on the Steelers draft board, I took a look at all of the prospects who could appeal to the Steelers and prioritized them based on the order I think the Steelers would take them if they were available at their pick.
In assembling the list, there had to be a minimum of 18 names since the Steelers pick at the 18th spot, ...
Pittsburgh Steelers in Race Against Time to Reload Defense
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
I was somewhat surprised when looking at the Sporting News Draft Guide for 2010 to see every Steelers defensive position except for the two safety spots listed as need areas.
Considering how great the defense was in 2008, this was somewhat shocking. While the defense struggled to hold leads in 2009, it still put together a very sound statistical season.
However, it is hard to argue with the magazine’s assessment. If anything, ...
March is one of my favorite times of year as a sports fan. While March Madness is a nice distraction, what I like even more is all of the buildup to the NFL draft.
The NFL draft starts on April 22, meaning we are now less than a month away. For me, the NFL draft is probably my second favorite football event of the year, behind only the Super Bowl.
While some ...
Who Wins the NFL Award for Most Overrated Quarterback?
Posted: 24th March 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
There was recently an article claiming the author believed Ben Roethlisberger was the most overrated quarterback in football. Another recent article claimed that Peyton Manning was the most overrated quarterback in football.
While both writers had plenty of good reasons for taking those positions, I don’t really think either of those claims are true. Where I rank a quarterback, it is generally determined by how much I fear that quarterback come ...
While it has been lost in light of the bigger story that need not be mentioned, the Steelers have quietly had an excellent off-season. It's been a "Back to the Future" kind of offseason. But, for a team that has won two Super Bowls in recent years, that is not a bad thing.
The biggest move was the resigning of Casey Hampton. This ensured the team does not have any glaring needs ...
Ben Roethlisberger Guilty of Letting Down the Pittsburgh Steelers and His Fans
Posted: 19th March 2010 by Todd Fleming in NFL
Since I find it to be a painful subject to consider, I planned on writing only one article on the Ben Roethlisberger situation. But, since my first article has spawned at least one counter-article specifically addressed as a response to me, I would like to make a few points and clarify my position.
And I take exception to those who think I’m somehow out to get Roethlisberger. He was my favorite player ...
