According to reports coming out of Washington, both the NBA and Washington, D.C., police are investigating star guard Gilbert Arenas after the Wizards acknowledged he kept unloaded guns in his locker at the Verizon Center.
The Wizards released a statement qualifying their knowledge of the issue on Dec. 24, but now both ESPN and theáNew YorkáPost are reporting that the US District Attorney's Office in Washington is working with the local ...

Posted: 1st January 2010 by TAB BAMFORD in NHL
New Jersey came into the United Center on Thursday night with a 13-1-1 record on the road, the best in the Eastern Conference. They were 11-3-0 in December, and shut out the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. The Devils had the best record in the Eastern Conference.
However, the Blackhawks owned the Devils on New YearÆs Eve, winning 5-1.
From start to finish, the Blackhawks dominated every aspect ...
Marlon Byrd: A Good Signing that Fails to Address Chicago Cubs’ Issues
Posted: 31st December 2009 by TAB BAMFORD in MLB
On New Year's Eve, almost exactly a year after Chicago last signed a free agent outfielder away from the Texas Rangers, the Cubs try again with Marlon Byrd.
The Cubs announced Thursday that they have agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal with Byrd.
Byrd's a nice complimentary player. As Danny Sisto will tell you, he'll play at least above average defense and will hit the ball fairly well. Last year in ...

As 2009 comes to a close, many will look back at not only this calendar year in reflection, but also the decade that has just passed.
As I wander back through my memory from this year's New Year's Eve to the beginning of 2000, I see ten years that stack up as the most depressing decade in the history of the Chicago Cubs.
From the highs of Sammy Sosa to ...
As Jim Hendry’s World Turns: Cardinals Make Big Holliday Offer
Posted: 30th December 2009 by TAB BAMFORD in MLB
ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting on Wednesday that the St. Louis Cardinals' offer to free agent outfielder Matt Holliday is in excess of $100 million.
In the wake of Jason Bay agreeing to a four-year deal worth $66 million with the Mets ($17 million per), it's hard to imagine another team throwing that kind of coin at Holliday.
The future implications of the Cardinals offering Holliday that type of money could be ...
On Wednesday, Hockey Canada announced the roster for their men's Olympic team.
There were a few surprises, and some no-brainers, but the talented roster will have the pressure of the home nation on its shoulders in Vancouver this February.
We'll start with the captain, Scott Neidermeyer, and finish with the netminders. This will be a good team, and a tough one to beat. It is, however, an interesting mix of young ...

While the goaltending situation for team Canada was fairly predictable, there were a few surprises when the rosters were announced on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks were expected to have Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews playing in Vancouver this February, but Keith’s partner on the blue line, Brent Seabrook, was supposedly on the bubble.
When Hockey Canada President Steve Yzerman announced the selected ...

Does Dallas have Cristobal Huet’s number?
Coach Joel Quenneville pulled Huet less than two minutes into the second period after he had allowed four goals on Dallas’ first 10 shots. Oddly enough, the last time the Blackhawks played Dallas on Oct. 17 was when the bandwagon to bench Huet reached it’s fullest. In that game, Huet allowed four ugly goals, ...

Is it time to start a counter for Blackhawks playing in Vancouver this winter?
For reasons beyond me, Sweden passed on Niklas Hjalmarsson over the weekend, which kept the official number of Hawks heading to the Olympics at zero until today.
On Tuesday morning, the Slovak menÆs hockey team roster was announced with Blackhawks Marian Hossa and Tomas Kopecky ...
