Lakers vs Celtics Game 5: Boston Celtics Hang on To Take 3-2 Series Lead
Posted: 13th June 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
All throughout the regular season, the Celtics, even when they won, rarely did it in easy fashion. Game Five of the NBA Finals was a flashback to those types of efforts, as holding on describes perfectly what Boston did on its way to the 92-86 victory. The Celtics now lead the series 3-2 with the Finals headed back to Los Angeles for Game Six on Tuesday night.
For much of the ...
2010 NBA Playoffs: Why Game Three Is a Must Win for the Boston Celtics
Posted: 20th May 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
Some might say it is an overstatement to label a Game Three on the home court of a team that is leading in the series 2-0 as a "must win."
Most times, they would be right.
But right now, in this series, in these playoffs, and for these Boston Celtics, Game Three is exactly that.
A must win.
Here are some numbers why.
768: The number of minutes played by Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Kevin ...
NBA Playoffs: Rajon Rondo’s Response to LeBron James Sets Up Game Five Showdown
Posted: 10th May 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
Note to self—do not go away again during a Boston Celtics playoff weekend.
As much as I enjoyed my all too brief trip to New Orleans, great players build their legacies in the playoffs, and I missed two different players add to their own growing legacies in the two games I missed.
On Friday night, in Game Three, it was LeBron James’ turn to respond to all the questions about his ...
NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics Send Miami Heat Home for the Summer
Posted: 27th April 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
Let me get this straight. The Celtics have dominating regular seasons in 2008 and 2009, but then have to sweat through a seven-game series in both years just to advance past the first round.
Now, in 2010, when the Celtics were a .500 team since Christmas and accomplished nothing in easy fashion all year, they need just five games to move on to the second round after tonight's 96-86 series-ending win ...
NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics Throw Away Chance To Sweep Miami Heat
Posted: 25th April 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
It was a great performance by the Boston Celtics in Sunday's Game Four against the Heat, a game where the Celtics had the opportunity to close out the series and earn the franchise's first four-game sweep since a 4-0 sweep of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1986 Eastern Conference finals.
That statement, however, comes with a major disclaimer - it does not include the first 17 minutes of the game or ...
NBA Playoffs: Paul Pierce Delivers Command Performance In Win Over Heat
Posted: 23rd April 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
If Paul Pierce is indeed acting, he earned himself an Oscar tonight for Best Delivery of a Punch to the Stomach. Pierce sent the Miami Heat home losers for the third time in three games by scoring 32 points, highlighted by his game-winning jumper as time expired.
Pierce’s heroics gave the Celtics the 100-98 win and a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
Pierce had his best game of the series, scoring ...
NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics Silence Quentin Richardson and Miami Heat
Posted: 20th April 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
So, Quentin, do you have any comments you would like to share now?
My guess is no, after the Boston Celtics destroyed the Miami Heat in Game Two, 106-77. As lopsided as the final score was, it was not even that close.
Boston had runs in the game of 21-0 in the first half and 18-0 in the second half. When Rajon Rondo drained a fade-away three-pointer with 10 minutes left ...
Boston Celtics Latest Loss: More Proof That The Team Doesn’t Measure Up
Posted: 6th April 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
One word keeps coming to mind about the Boston Celtics loss last night to the New York Knicks: Pathetic.
In every sense of the word, the loss was truly, utterly, and completely pathetic.
What is really sad is that the loss, while pathetic (have I mentioned that), wasn’t even the worst loss of the season. It might not even crack the top ten. Heck, it wasn’t even the most pathetic loss in ...
Boston Celtics: A Down Year For Doc Rivers And Danny Ainge
Posted: 31st March 2010 by Stew Winkel in NBA
It has not been a good year for Doc Rivers or Danny Ainge.
Coming off a 21-point home loss to the San Antonio Spurs, the Boston Celtics are 47-26, 10.5 games behind the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, and in a dogfight with the Atlanta Hawks for the three seed. Where once there was talk of a championship, now there is concern about even advancing out of the first round.
The ...
It was only ten days ago when I had thrown in the towel on the 2009-10 Boston Celtics. The Celtics had lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-93. The game marked the second straight meeting between the two teams where Cleveland appeared to toy with Boston—allowing the Celtics to hang around before quickly and easily pulling away.
Boston followed that game, though, with decisive home wins over the Pistons and Knicks. Nice ...
