Exclusive Interview With Mets Beat Writer Brian Costa
Posted: 6th December 2009 by Phil Hoops in MLB
This past week, New York Mets beat writer, Brian Costa, of the Star Ledger was kind enough to allow me to submit to him questions regarding Mets Hot Stove rumors.
To obtain the questions I scoured the forums, as well as the chat room here at Mets Merized to try to come up with the best and most frequently asked questions regarding the team’s future.
I’m confident that this interview will give ...
A Twitterview with Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher Seth McClung
Posted: 4th December 2009 by Phil Hoops in MLB
On Wednesday evening I had the pleasure and privilege of interviewing current Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher, Seth McClung .
Now before I begin, IÆd just like to express my well wishes to him, not only for doing the interview but also for his speedy responses.
For the past few weeks all the buzz around baseball has been focused on Hot Stove talk. So I figured why not change things up a ...
Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi over at FoxSports.com are reporting that numerous teams have been discussing Angel Pagan to be their potential starting center fielder.
Outside of the Kansas City Royals, it is not yet clear who exactly is pursuing the 28-year-old outfielder although the article suggests that the Brewers, Rangers and Cubs could all have some interest.
Last season in 88 games, Pagan hit .306 with six home ...
According to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, the Mets are interested in bringing back reliever Elmer Dessens for the 2010 season.
In 2009, Dessens was quite the bargain for the Mets, as he had his best year in the big leagues since 2005, posting a 3.31 ERA in 32.2 innings.
His K:BB ratio wasn't the best (14:10), but he was still able to manage to get hitters out.
The 13-year ...
Miguel Cabrera or Adrian Gonzalez: Who Fits Better into New York Mets’ Future?
Posted: 25th November 2009 by Phil Hoops in MLB
Before you read any further, I would like to issue a disclaimer of sorts. Despite all the buzz around the Internet about Adrian Gonzalez and/or Miguel Cabrera, I donÆt believe that either will be traded this offseason.
Furthermore, I would like to go out on a limb and say that even if they were to be traded, I donÆt see the Mets on the receiving end of either of the ...
Prior to the 2009 season, Bobby Parnell knew that he wasùby no meansùguaranteed to make the Opening Day roster. Nevertheless, he worked hard and pitched very well in Spring Training, which him earned a spot on the 25-man roster.
His role with the team was supposed to be the seventh inning bridge to J.J. Putz and Francisco Rodriguez , and for the first half of the year that's exactly what occurred.
Parnell ...
Former New York Met Victor Zambrano’s Mother Kidnapped
Posted: 9th November 2009 by Phil Hoops in MLB
Some sad and alarming news to report this morning out of Venezuela.
According to the Associated Press , the mother of former Mets pitcher Victor Zambrano was kidnapped from the pitcherÆs property late last night.
Details of the incident are still very sketchy.
Over the past few years, Venezuela has been the target of kidnappers, who look to extort money from the many sports stars that live there, by taking their loved ones ...
2010 New York Mets Bullpen Breakdown: Pedro Feliciano
Posted: 9th November 2009 by Phil Hoops in MLB
Through all the twists and turns the New York Mets have taken over the past four years, one factor has always remained constant.
That particular factor is relief pitcher, Pedro Feliciano .
Feliciano, who has been a mainstay in the Mets bullpen since his second tour of duty with the team began in 2006, has proven to be one of the most reliable relievers in the National League over the past couple ...
As I had mentioned in my previous post, it has been nearly a year since the Mets acquired J.J. Putz from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for a bevy of players.
When they acquired the hard-throwing righty, the Mets envisioned having a proven closer that could fill the closer's role if needed.
However, as usual, things did not work out as planned for the Mets.
Throughout his brief season Putz found ...
Last offseason, I started writing a series of columns that profiled each member of the Mets bullpen and analyzed their performance in the previous season.
At the conclusion of each article, I would make a determination on whether or not I thought the pitcher should be brought back.
The articles, for the most part, were met with solid reader reception so this year we will continue the tradition.
To kickoff the offseason we ...
