There was a lot of progress made on the first day of free agency, on which 44 players were signed, 33 finding a new home.
There have been 77 players signed in total since July 1, including Sergei Gonchar, who went to the Ottawa Senators, Chris Mason, who signed with the Atlanta Thrashers, and Paul Martin, who is now a Pittsburgh Penguin.
Despite the number of signings, there are still a number ...

Well, the 2010 NHL Entry Draft may not have gone how fans had expected, but the Sabres have brought in ...
Before the 2009-10 season officially ends and free agency begins, I decided to put together a team of my own under the current $56.8 million salary cap. The monetary value following each player is their 2010 salary cap hit.
For those of you not familiar with the “cap hit,” it is an average of the current contract a player is signed to. The cap hit is what is counted against each ...
The Buffalo Sabres are a team that prides itself on winning games through solid defense and incredible balance. Unfortunately, the team’s balance wasn’t enough to get past the sixth-seeded Boston Bruins in the opening round of the 2010 playoffs.
The Sabres’ balance makes it difficult to pinpoint one specific position or type of player to draft.
One thing the Sabres will not need in this draft is a goalie. Ryan Miller will ...
2010 NHL Mock Draft: Northeast Division in the First Round
Posted: 14th June 2010 by Matthew Hogan in NHL
Thanks in part to Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke, the Northeast Division will be one of the most interesting divisions to watch in the 2010 NHL Draft.
As it turns out, the Maple Leafs, who were the division’s worst team and had the second worst record in the entire league, do not have a pick in the first round of this year’s draft… for now.
After the first two picks ...

The 2010 NHL playoffs have officially come to an end—and with all of the hype surrounding the World Cup, they have already been forgotten.

Another turn has been taken in the Zack Kassian saga.
Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced on Tuesday that the team would postpone contract negotiations with the 13th overall pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft.
Kassian was charged with assault late last week after his involvement in a fight at a Windsor bar on May 30 .
“It’s obviously not something we condone,” Regier told The Buffalo ...
2010 Stanley Cup Finals: Seven Players To Watch in Game 6
Posted: 8th June 2010 by Matthew Hogan in NHL
It can’t be stressed enough just how many different players have stood out throughout the Stanley Cup Finals, let alone the entire 2010 playoffs.
Jaroslav Halak’s and Joe Pavelski’s heroics in the earlier rounds of the postseason have been long since forgotten, and a new road has been paved for the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers.
Players like Danny Briere and Jonathan Toews have brought their best game to the postseason ...
Buffalo Sabres Offseason Update: Rivet’s Injury Is a Blessing
Posted: 25th May 2010 by Matthew Hogan in NHL
It was announced last week that Buffalo Sabres’ captain Craig Rivet could miss four-to-six months after this week’s shoulder surgery.
The 35-year-old Rivet is looking to repair a double labrum tear which has gotten progressively worse over the course of the last two seasons. The initial reports out of Sabres’ camp is that Rivet may miss the opening week of the season, but Sabres general manager Darcy Reiger is more optimistic.
“Right ...
Quite a Conundrum: The Buffalo Sabres and Their Free Agents
Posted: 19th May 2010 by Matthew Hogan in NHL
Sabres general manager Darcy Regier has already vowed that the offseason will begin a serious “rebuilding” period for the team.
Buffalo will not be rebuilding not from the ground up, but the team will be bringing in the necessary pieces to establish a Stanley Cup caliber team.
But before the Sabres can go after any free agents, they have to worry about which players they will re-sign. Luckily for Regier, there are ...
