Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain Struggle in Spring Debuts for Yankees
Posted: 5th March 2010 by Jordan Schwartz in MLB
If the competition for the Yankees' No. 5 starter's spot is truly a five-man race, frontrunners Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes would currently rank fourth and fifth on the depth chart.
After Chad Gaudin, Sergio Mitre and Alfredo Aceves each turned in two scoreless innings of work in Wednesday's spring opener against the Pirates, Hughes and Chamberlain both struggled in their first outings on Friday.
Hughes started the game against the Rays ...
Small Ball, Big Advantage: Brett Gardner To Bunt More in 2010
Posted: 13th February 2010 by Jordan Schwartz in MLB
Brett Gardner had 284 plate appearances last year, and during approximately 284 of them I was screaming at my TV begging him to bunt.
Maybe 284ábunts is a bit much for one season, but when you have as much speed as the Yankees' outfielder does, it makes sense to lay one down once in a while to see if you can beat the throw to first.
This is why I was pleased ...
1. (1) Indianapolis Colts (14-2)
As expected, the Colts' starters didn't see much actionáin snowy Buffalo, and so Peyton and the boys will enter theirádivisional playoffácontest on Jan. 16 or 17 without having won a game in 30 or 31 days.á Still, I can't see ranking Indy anywhere but first because they remain undefeated with the first line on the field.á No one else can say that.

1. (1) Indianapolis Colts (14-1)
It wasádisappointing to see Jim Caldwell pull Peyton Manning in the third quarter to prevent him from getting hurt, when the quarterback gets sacked less than any starter in the league.á
Now that they are no longer undefeated, I can't see any reason why any of the Colts' impact guys would play more than a half at Buffalo this week, which means Indy could enter its divisional ...
This past weekend featured a number of upsets and last-minute victories, leaving us with eight teams battling for the final two playoff spots in the AFC.á It should be a fun last couple of weeks in the NFL.

1. (1) Indianapolis Colts (14-0)
Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis played sparingly, but the rest of the Colts starters played the entire game on Thursday as Indy cleared its highest remaining hurdle along its ...
1. (1) Indianapolis Colts (13-0)
After setting a new NFL record with 22 consecutive regular season victories and clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs, the only question remaining is whether the Colts will let their starters play the full 60 minutes over the final three weeks in their quest for perfection.á
As a fan, I'd love to see them go for it and they may not even need to have Peyton ...
Dealing Austin Jackson for Curtis Granderson: Yankees Take the Risk
Posted: 8th December 2009 by Jordan Schwartz in MLB
The Yankees are reportedly nearing a three-team deal that would essentially send outfield prospect Austin Jackson to the Tigers in exchange for Curtis Granderson.
In the trade, the D-backs would get Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy, while Detroit would also obtain Max Scherzer, Daniel Schlereth, and Phil Coke.
After years of shipping out young talent in exchange for veterans who failed in New York, the Yanks recently turned their focus to keeping ...
1. (2) Indianapolis Colts (12-0)
You think Peyton Manning and the Colts were tired of hearing how Vince Young and a 5-6 Titans team were going to come into their home and end their undefeated season?á How about all the chatter detailing how the Saints had a better chance of remaining perfect?á
Indy made a statement on Sunday en route to its record-tying 21st consecutive regular season victory.

Yankees Start Trimming the Fat: Brian Bruney Traded to Nationals
Posted: 7th December 2009 by Jordan Schwartz in MLB
The Yankees, who are reportedly on a quest to reduce payroll this offseason, have traded right-handed reliever Brian Bruney to the Washington Nationals for a player to be named later.
Bruney, who made $1.25 million this year, was due for salary arbitration and could've made around $2 million after putting up what appeared to be a good season.
The 27-year-old's 5-0 record and 3.92 ERA look nice on paper, but Yankees fans ...
1. (1) Indianapolis Colts (10-0)
The oddsmakers had the undefeated Colts underdogs at Baltimore, expecting a letdown after that incredible comeback win over the Pats.á Peyton Manning, however, is never an underdog.

2. (2) New Orleans Saints (10-0)
For the fifth straight contest, New Orleans was not ahead after one quarter of play.á The Saints certainly played a lot better over the final 45 minutes, but they can't afford to get off to ...
