Cleveland Browns Draft: Trade Up, Trade Down or Stand Pat?

Posted: 14th April 2010 by Hugh Shannon in NFL
Where does safety Eric Berry land and how important is he to the Cleveland Browns draft plans?  Those are the questions that will determine the "trade strategy" the Browns will employ. Scenario No. 1Cleveland trades up to grab Berry, trading away picks seven and 38. QB will have to wait for later rounds or 2011. Scenario No. 2 Cleveland stands pat and if Kansas City takes an offensive tackle, Berry likely falls to ...

Whether or not 2010 is the year Mike Holmgren finds his West Coast QB of the future, a quarterback will be drafted.  Here is a look at some late round sleepers that may be intriguing and have not been talked much about. John Skelton, Fordham (6'6", 243 lbs.) projected fourth round Increasing accuracy every season (44 percent as freshman to 64 percent as senior).  Broke every school and Patriot League record ...

Posted: 20th March 2010 by Hugh Shannon in NFL
With all of the discussion on the Cleveland Browns drafting a quarterback in the 2010 draft, the questions have focused on: Who should Cleveland take? and What round should the Browns use a draft pick for a QB?  Should we be asking a different question? Next year's draft will see the likes of Washington senior Jake Locker, Ricky Stanzi of Iowa and Florida State's Christian Ponder as well as the possible early entry of Arkansas' Ryan Mallett, Blaine Gabbert ...

Cleveland Browns’ Mock Draft: One Month Out

Posted: 19th March 2010 by Hugh Shannon in NFL
With a month before the NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns have had an active offseason.  They have acquired several players to shore up weaknesses mostly on the offensive side of the ball.    In preparing this mock draft, it would be good to review the offseason transaction to date.   By Trade: QB Seneca Wallace   By Free Agent Acquisition: QB Jake Delhomme, QB Tyler Palko, TE Ben Watson, OT Tony ...
Former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson was an All-Pro in 2007. With a strong running back in Jamal Lewis and talented pass catchers in Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow Jr., and Joe Jurevicius, Anderson amassed great stats and led Cleveland to the brink of a playoff appearance. Every Browns fan knows what followed. Anderson was summarily dismissed and left in a huff. DA now finds himself with a chance to compete for a starting job ...
So Mike Holmgren has put an end to the QB madness in Cleveland: Anderson and Quinn are gone.  Delhomme takes the reins and Wallace waits in the wings in case the Delhomme of 2009 shows up instead of the 2008 version. Ratliff and Palko round out the "just in case" contingent. But what about the draft? Move up to get Bradford or Clausen?  Wait until the safer second round for a McCoy or Tebow?  Trade ...

Cleveland Browns Draft: Is It Judgement Day for the 3-4 Defense?

Posted: 15th March 2010 by Hugh Shannon in NFL
Has Browns President Mike Holmgren been divinely inspired?  He brought in free agent ILB Scott Fujita from the world champion Saints as his one and only defensive addition thus far.  Now, Kamerion Wimbley has been cast from paradise to Oakland for a third round pick.  The sermon from on high is that the secondary is the alpha and omega while the defensive line is basically in ruins like Sodom and ...
Round Four, Pick 102 3-4 Defense: SS Darrell Stuckey, Kansas WCO Offense: OG Mike Johnson, Alabama Combo Pick: Stuckey Stuckey is an explosive tackler with good size and speed.  His only real weakness is in man coverage.  Great pick for a 4th rounder. Round Five, Pick 130 3-4 Defense: DT Linval Joseph, East Carolina WCO Offense: OT Kyle Calloway, Iowa Combo Pick: Joseph Massive DT at 350 lbs., needs to work on endurance but explosive off snap when fresh ...
