The Mariners Might As Well Just Sign Jarrod Washburn
Posted: 12th March 2010 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
As a blogger, I really, really want someone to sign Jarrod Washburn. I’m tired of hearing about him, and I’m even more tired of writing about him. It’s now mid-March, and he’s still a free agent, so naturally he remains a hot topic with fans.
We all know the first part of this story. Jarrod Washburn was a Mariner. He was mediocre. Jarrod Washburn got traded ...
Analyzing the Mariners’ Acquisition Of Cliff Lee
Posted: 15th December 2009 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
For the Mariners, this trade is, to sum it up in one word, awesome. Not only are they significantly improving their chances of being a serious contender in 2010, but they're doing it without giving up all that much of the future.
As of right now, it appears that the Mariners will be sending Phillippe Aumont, JC Ramirez, and Tyson Gillies to the Phillies, in exchange for Cliff Lee.
Yes, Aumont has ...

Multiple sources have been reporting over the last four hours that a blockbuster trade between the Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto Blue Jays is on the verge of being a done deal.
The trade would send Roy Halladay to the Phillies, Cliff Lee to the Mariners, one Mariners prospect to the Blue Jays, two Mariners prospects to the Phillies, and two Phillies prospects to the Blue Jays.
This deal is also ...
Should the Seattle Mariners Pursue Jason Marquis?
Posted: 12th December 2009 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
Though the most exciting three and a half days of the off season are over, the rumors will of course, continue to fly through the off seasonùand the latest one on the Mariners front, from Fox sports, is that the MÆs are interested in RHP Jason Marquis.
ô Seattle adds Marquis to wish list ù 3:45 p.m.

My Post-Winter Meetings, Offseason Plan for the Seattle Mariners
Posted: 10th December 2009 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
This post would have been easier for me to tackle if I had actually written a complete off-season plan back in October, but IÆll do what I can.
Up until about a week ago, I think most of us were pretty confident as to what we wanted the Mariners to accomplish this off season. Personally, I wanted us to sign Nick Johnson, Russell Branyan, and Rich Harden.
I certainly didnÆt see the ...
ItÆs finally that time of year, folks. This is what weÆve been waiting for since the Mariners fell out of the AL West race back in July: the winter meetings are finally here.
Day one was relatively uninteresting, with no major news taking place. There were a few minor signings and arbitration decisionsùhowever none of them involved the Mariners so IÆm not even going to talk about them.
There were a few ...
Trading Jose Lopez: How Can the Mariners Improve in the Process?
Posted: 25th November 2009 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
WARNING: This article is heavily sabermetrics-oriented.
Assuming we don’t get a second baseman in return, which is quite unlikely, we’re obviously going to need someone to replace him.
In Geoff Baker’s recent article on the subject of trading Jose Lopez, he mentions both Orlando Hudson and Placido Polanco as potential free agent replacements, as well as the possibility of Matt Tuiasosopo or Bill Hall filling the void.
Hudson could be a really nice ...
Big-Name Free Agents and the 2010 Seattle Mariners
Posted: 3rd November 2009 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
Right now, there are a lot of different theories out there, among fans, bloggers, beat writers, everyone, about how the Mariners should go about building this team for next season.
I wonÆt even attempt to cover all of themùI couldnÆt if I wanted to, but, I do want to take a look at one of the more common onesùwhich is focusing primarily on the offense, and more specifically, going after big-name, ...
I know he isnÆt gone yet, and IÆm certainly a subscriber to the ôanything can happenö way of thinking, but it seems inevitable that Mr. Beltre wonÆt be here come 2010.
Adrian, sometimes fondly referred to as ôYaydrian," or ôKing Awesomeö over at Lookout Landing, has been one of the most recognizable faces of the Seattle Mariners for five seasons now. Despite the team being really bad for three of the ...
How Good Of a Fit Would Felipe Lopez Be For the Mariners?
Posted: 21st October 2009 by Griffin Cooper in MLB
My guess is that by now, pretty much all of you have read Dave CameronÆs 2010 offseason plan over at USS Mariner . He did a fantastic job on it overall, and clearly put a lot of work into it. One signing he advocated was Orlando Hudson, to play second base (assuming Jose Lopez gets traded).
Now, Hudson would definitely be a good fit in Seattle. HeÆs a switch hitter, which ...
