Table-Setters: The Toronto Blue Jays’ Best Leadoff Hitters
Posted: 9th May 2010 by Geoff Zochodne in MLB
The signing of Fred Lewis has been a heist of epic proprotions; it's actually tightened security at Luftansa airport. Even more unfortunate: They haven't made an air freshener potent enough to purge the scent of swindle lingering in the San Francisco Giants' front office.
For the Toronto Blue Jays, having a true leadoff hitter in their ranks once more has been reaffirming. It hearkens back to a simpler time, when OBP ...
The Joe Mauer Signing and Its Impact on the Toronto Blue Jays
Posted: 22nd March 2010 by Geoff Zochodne in MLB
A wise man once said that money can't buy you happiness. That poor, dead, man is probably having second thoughts as his cheaply built coffin (or spacious cardboard box, if you will) disintegrates around him.
The Minnesota Twins seem quite content to pay Joe Mauer a whopping $23 million a year to play for them. And unless Mr. Mauer is a little slow (the sideburns beg questions), he's going to take that money.
And ...
2010 Toronto Blue Jays: Where Is Our Fearless Leader?
Posted: 16th March 2010 by Geoff Zochodne in MLB
You've got nothing to lose by watching the 2010 version of the Toronto Blue Jays.
Can you feel that excitement? It's almost as thrilling as asking a question and then answering it yourself.
Is that fulfilling? You bet.
The only promise this team can make to its fans is that they will play baseball. Satisfaction isn't guaranteed, but that's been the case in Toronto for some time.
Just like how winter is slowly melting ...
The Tragically Hip, Toronto Raptors, and a Glimmer Of Hope
Posted: 12th November 2009 by Geoff Zochodne in NBA
In the immortal words of The Tragically Hip, "It can't be Nashville every night."
Confusing right?
I mean, I'm writing about the Toronto Raptors, there's no team in Nashville, and The Tragically Hip once wrote a song about a polar bear named Gus. Not exactly the strongest of source material.
Well for the Raps last night, they finally caught a break. For once it wasn't Nashville.
Toronto has made a point of shutting down ...
Last night in New Orleans, the Toronto Raptors displayed a depth that's been missing from the team for years.
It was refreshing to watch as the Raps slowly ground the Hornets into dust, and thenáas theyádefinitively blew them away in the second half.
And how did they do it?
Because these Raptors are deep.
Not write-you-a-poem-because-they're-so-sensitive-deep, but the kind of deep where Chris Bosh spending 45 minutes hucking J's no longer constitutes their offense.
(Although ...
Foul Ball: The Toronto Raptors’ Love Affair with the Whistle
Posted: 2nd November 2009 by Geoff Zochodne in NBA
Well the Toronto Raptors had themselves an interesting week. Why don't we give them a hand?
(Wait for it.)
(Wait for it.)
(C'mon Geoff keep it togeth-)
BECAUSE THEYáSURE DID IT FOR THEIR OPPONENTS!
I'm not above hackiness.á
It's been an up-and-down season thus far. The Raps' only win came against a tired Cavs squad in a gameáthat Toronto almost squandered in the second half. Then Memphis and Orlando exploited the Raps' defense like a naive ...
The Phinal Word: The Miami Dolphins and the Faulk Effect
Posted: 26th October 2009 by Geoff Zochodne in NFL
There are plenty of reasons the Miami Dolphins lost on Sunday.
Ted Ginn's drops. Chad Henne's inexperience. The New Orleans Saints' unstoppable offense. Tony Sparano's record skipping a beat. The hastily prepared jambalaya they had for lunch. The lack of clean towels.
People thought the Miami Dolphins could win this football game for the same reason they win any game:áby running the football, controlling the clock, and minimizing mistakes. The beliefáabound ...
Miami Dolphins-New Orleans Saints: Fighting For The Love Of The Tuna

Bill Parcells.
Oh, you sly fox.
People may be fooled into thinking this Miami-New Orleans game is just about football. But it's so much more.
It's two sons fighting for their father's affections, and it's going to be a bitter family affair.
I'll elaborate.
Bill Parcells was a football coach. He was a great football coach. The people who coached underneath him during his career went on to their own coaching careers of varying success.
Coaches ...
Toronto Raptors: A Team for Whom Winning Is More Than Half the Battle

What if Shakespeare had only written half of Romeo and Juliet ? It would be a nice story about falling in love with no consequences whatsoever; no one gets poisoned, stabbed, or has a thumb bitten at them. Boooooring.
What if Coppola only made the first half of The Godfather ? We'd all be wondering why the Corleones were softer than a marshmallow in heat. Hm, that's slightly inappropriate...
Butáwhat if the ...
The Phinal Word: The Miami Dolphins’ Pass Rush Has Come to Town
Posted: 8th October 2009 by Geoff Zochodne in NFL
Two weeks ago, Chad Pennington got hurt. Miami fans everywhere were screaming a) Chad Henne! b) Pat White! or c) NOOOOOOO!
Henne was the only quarterback the Fins had available to suit up against the Chargers that afternoon; Pat White being inactive. Why was White inactive? Why were so many fans' dreams of the WildPat going unfulfilled?
Becauseáthe Dolphins decided to activateáa certain linebacker named Cameron Wake.
For the unenlightened (and if that's ...
