Sean Avery Finds Retribution, New York Rangers Find Secondary Scoring
Posted: 6th January 2010 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
There's that old saying, "Don't get mad, get even." Well, last night, Sean Avery got both.
Avery played a marvelous game against his former club, the Dallas Stars, as he helped the Rangers earn their second victory in a row at the Garden, a 5-2 win.
Avery, who finished the night with a goal and three assists, played arguably his best game of the season.
"Two teams were paying me," Avery joked, ...
New York Rangers’ Chris Drury and Ryan Callahan Make Team USA…That’s Swell
Posted: 3rd January 2010 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
Shortly after the Winter Classic '10, Team USA announced their 23-man roster for the 2010 Vancouver Games.
Ranger fans were happy to notice that two more of their Blueshirts made the squad.
Captain Chris Drury and assistant captain Ryan Callahan were both announced by GM Brian Burke as participants for Team USA.
That's really swell and all, but honestly, as a Ranger fan...I could care less.
Don't get me wrong, being named to any ...
With Vaclav Prospal Out, Sean Avery Needs To Shine for Rangers
Posted: 30th December 2009 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
Unless you have been blind for the previous 10 games or so, you would have noticed that the best Ranger forward has been Sean Avery.
I'm not talking about production here. I'm talking about consistency.
Obviously, if you look at his numbers—no goals since Nov. 23 against Columbus when it seemed like half the team scored—you would beg to differ.
Avery has been noticeable every time he has been on the ice. This ...
Memo to the NHL: The New York Rangers Need to Ax the Broadway Blueshirts
Posted: 25th December 2009 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
This morning, when my brother and I were opening up our presents, he unwrapped a box and pulled something out that I have been seeing way too much lately.
A blue Rangers jersey.
Don't get me wrong, I love the blue jersey, I actually only buy themùmainly because of my messy nature and would destroy the white ones.
Ever since 2003, the Garden has had no color.
There is no breaking the ...
Brett, can you hear me?
It's me, Frank. You know, the guy whose fantasy team you decimated for years to come.
Well, you did it again.
You articulately conceived a plot to murder my fantasy dreams again this season, didn't you?
What did I ever do to you Brett?
In case you didn't read, or you forgot, Brett Favre and I are no strangers to each other. He has spoiled my fantasy dreams once ...
New York Rangers Recall D Matt Gilroy and Send Two Others Down
Posted: 20th December 2009 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
Matt Gilroy's demotion to the Hartford Wolfpack was shortùand sweet.
Gilroy was recalled by the Rangers this morning while defensemen Ilkka Heikkinnen and Bobby Sanguinetti were sent back down.
The 25-year-old 2009 Hobey Baker winner was sent to the Wolfpack on Dec. 10 in order to re-establish his game at the NHL level.
Assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld said that Gilroy's play was "chinking down, in small increments," and hoped that the stint with ...
When things get stale, shaking them up is one of the best ways to make them fresh again.
Too much shaking, however, can make them confused, baffled, and flustered.
John Tortorella has added too much shake, no bake.
The constant line shuffles have thwarted the Rangers' ability to establish any sort of chemistry. I'm not talking about from game-to-game either. When it comes to lines, Tortorella is more erratic than a highlight read ...
Brandon Dubinsky, Enver Lisin Likely to Return For Rangers Tonight
Posted: 14th December 2009 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
Brandon Dubinsky will most likely be suiting up for the Rangers tonight against the Atlanta Thrashers. It will be Dubi's first action since breaking a bone in his hand Nov. 7 against the Calgary Flames.
The return of Dubinsky could not have come at a more critical point for the Rangers. The Rangers—who are in desperate need of scoring—will slot Dubinsky between their leading scoring Marian Gaborik, and Christopher Higgins.
Vinny Prospal, ...
Enough is enough.
This is the National Hockey League. This is not your high school or college team.
Working hard is just part of the equation; finishing is the answer.
I am sick and tired of hearing "how hard" the Rangers have worked. Working hard is great, it's something that every NHL player should be doing. When you are at the professional level in any sport, working hard should not be something that ...
Rangers-Blue Jackets: New York Explodes for Seven, Defeats Columbus, 7-4
Posted: 23rd November 2009 by Frank Castaldi in NHL
Sometimes all you need is a little timeout.
That's all it took for the New York Rangers to get the message sent by coach John Tortorella Monday night.
Down 2-0 to Columbus early in the first period, Tortorella quickly called a timeout in an attempt to have his team relax and regain composure.
Whatever he said made a world of difference, as the Rangersùwho looked flat-footed in the defensive endùanswered with three straight ...
