Rolling Rocks: Rockies Make a Statement With Win Over Padres
Posted: 10th July 2010 by David Martin in MLB
Just another day at work for the Rockies.
A 4-2 victory over the NL West-leading San Diego Padres at Coors Field on Saturday night. The victory moved the Rockies to within just one game of taking the lead.
The game was yet another example of just how deep this Rockies organization is.
Jason Hammel, the Rockies' fifth starter, continued his dominance. The righty, picked up off the Tampa Bay trash heap, pitched 6-1/3 ...
The Colorado Rockies are used to it. They are the lone team that plays in the Mountain Time zone. Therefore, games on the east coast are wrapping up when they start, and games on the west coast are underway shortly after the Rockies start.
What that means is that none of baseball's so-called experts are watching the team play.
That may not be a big deal from the ...
Colorado Rockies Beat San Francisco Giants Again, Excitement Grows

For the second time this season, the Rockies made Tim Lincecum, the two-time defending Cy Young winner, look like just another pitcher.
This time, 22-year-old Jhoulys Chacin kept the Rockies in the game long enough to win 6-3.
Chacin shook off a two-run first inning in which Aubrey Huff hit a long home run to right field. He held the Giants scoreless for the next four frames before serving up another home ...
A three game series victory against the Red Sox had the Rockies and their fans invigorated. Finally this team had learned to battle back and find a way to win a game in the late innings.
Three days later the Rockies were back to their usual sloppy play, losing 10-3 to the Angels in Anaheim.
Once again, the victim was rookie pitcher Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin built on his ...
After two nights of playing games that lasted over four hours, the Rockies played a game that lasted just 2:15. Unfortunately for the Rox, they lost the game 4-2.
Aaron Cook had seven great innings of baseball. Unfortunately, he was in the game for eight innings.
In the bottom of the first inning, Cook gave up a grand slam to Hideki Matsui, a veteran player who is not a stranger to the ...
Rockies Come From Behind, Then Survive Late Brewers Rally
Posted: 20th June 2010 by David Martin in MLB
Who would have thought that the magical formula for the Rockies to start playing better would be to lose their best player?
That's exactly what seems to have happened, as the Rockies rallied for the first time all season, beating the Brewers 8-7 at Coors Field on Saturday night.
The Rockies were down 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning after a disastrous top of the inning spoiled an otherwise ...
Most Rockies fans hold out hope as long as possible that the team is going to turn a mediocre season around. As long as possible may have come with the news on Friday.
Friday X-Rays revealed a broken wrist for Troy Tulowitzki after he was hit by a pitch in Thursday's matinee in Minnesota. Tulo initially remained in the game, but came out after the half inning.
The Rockies ...
This is why everyone thought the Rockies would be so good.
On Sunday afternoon at a dreary Coors Field, Ryan Spilborghs led Colorado to a 10-3 win over the Blue Jays, completing a three-game sweep.
Spilborghs completed perhaps the best weekend in his career by going 3 for 5 with a triple and two home runs. The Santa Barbara, CA native raised his average over .50 over the three game set, finishing ...
Disgusting, sick, gross, nasty, ugly. Their are plenty of words to describe the latest Rockies debacle, but none of them are positive.
The Rox dropped a very winnable game at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night 6-2. It was the latest example of the Rockies making a decent pitcher look like a Cy Young winner.
Tuesday's Cy Young was Carlos Silva, an overpaid pitcher who has never had ...
This is getting ridiculous. If depression from the weather hasn't set in, it never will. For most it has, and won't go away until the temperatures get above 60 degrees.
Rockies writers are soon going to need to be certified by the American Meteorology Society in order to cover the team.
While rain in May is no huge surprise in Denver, the cold is surprising. The ...
