No Coaching Kudos Again for Jazz’s Jerry Sloan: Sports’ Biggest Award Snub?
Posted: 1st May 2010 by David Lynn in NBA
With the selection of Scott Brooks as the NBA’s Coach of the Year last week, what may be the greatest slight in the history of sports awards has carried on for another year.
If the headline didn’t give it away, I am referring to the fact that Jerry Sloan has never been given the award as the best head coach in the NBA, an award determined by a group of sportswriters.
If ...
A Week of Walk-Offs: Texas Rangers Plagued By Inconsistency in a Rough Week
Posted: 25th April 2010 by David Lynn in MLB
I know it is still early in the season, but this team is feeling more and more like teams of the past; keeping a record right around .500, and never knowing how to put other teams away. I hope they can get it figured out soon.
Game Recaps
4-20 at Boston Red Sox L, 6-7
Colby Lewis had a decent start going five innings and giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. He ...
Texas Rangers Week Two: A Week Short on Offense Leads to a Week Full of Losses
Posted: 19th April 2010 by David Lynn in MLB
Week Two of the season proved to be less than a happy week as a Rangers fan. It started out pretty well but quickly spiraled downhill and ended with a big thud.
Game Recaps
Apr. 12 @ Cleveland Indians W, 4-2
Rich Harden proved to be far more effective than in his first start as a Ranger, going six innings and allowing only two runs on five hits.
However, Nelson Cruz was once ...
Rangers-Blue Jays: Texas Wins Opener in Walk-Off Behind Nelson Cruz’s Big Day

I love baseball.
I love everything about it. For as long as I can remember, baseball has been the one thing that I have consistently adored.
I am a big sports fan in general, but nothing gets my blood pumping like a good baseball game.
Today’s Rangers-Blue Jays game was just such a contest.
The beginning of the game was extremely disheartening for Rangers fans. Going in with such high expectations, it was really ...
Texas Rangers Poised to Break Through and End Playoff Drought

Opening Day is upon us.
The game tonight is really just a TV opportunity, and while it is a good one, the real fun gets started tomorrow.
This is without a doubt one of my favorite days of the year. I won’t be attending any games, though I will definitely be watching, but there is just something about the start of baseball season that makes me happy.
Part of it has to be ...
Karl Malone To Join John Stockton and Jerry Sloan in Hall of Fame This Summer
Posted: 3rd April 2010 by David Lynn in NBA
Karl Malone was absolutely the most dominant power forward of his time. He was also arguably the greatest power forward in the history of the game.
It was unofficially announced on Friday that Malone will enter the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this summer. The official announcement will be made Monday in Indianapolis as part of the NCAA championship festivities.
His induction comes a year after the enshrinement of his longtime ...
The Rangers finally announced their opening day starter on Saturday, and in my opinion they absolutely made the right choice:
Scott Feldman
There was some speculation that Rich Harden would be given the Opening Day nod, but following the best season of his career, and an excellent spring, the Rangers decided to give Feldman the much deserved honor.
“[Feldman] deserves it,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “He won 17 games for us last ...
The United States is Simply the Greatest Sports Country in the World

Now, at my favorite time in the sports calendar, I often reflect upon the amazing nature of sports. It is something that can be totally unifying, and at the same time, completely divisive.
Some people quite literally live and die on the success of their teams.
It is something that transcends all of the normal boundaries that are set for us in life. A young man can grow up on the streets, ...
Texas Rangers Spring Training Preview, Part Four of Five: Outfielders
Posted: 25th March 2010 by David Lynn in MLB
I grew up and fell in love with a Rangers team that was much different from this one. Back then the outfield was the offensive strength of the team, much like it was for most teams.
I remember watching Juan Gonzalez, Ruben Sierra, and the fan-favorite Rusty Greer. Jose Canseco was also out there for a little while, but we’ll just forget about him.
In recent years, the outfield has been somewhat ...
I hate drugs.
Plain and simple.
No ifs, ands, or buts.
However you want to say it, there are few things that are dumber to me than doing drugs. There was a time when we didn’t know what some of the effects of certain drugs were, so I guess I can see why people did it; because it felt good, and they didn’t know it was bad.
But we don’t live in that world ...
