Is Greg Oden Over Kevin Durant a Bowie Over Jordan Redux for Portland?
Posted: 7th April 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in NBA
Looking up to the rafters in the Rose Garden, Portland Trail Blazer fans proudly gaze at the championship banners hanging there from the Jordan era.
Oops! My mistake.
Or maybe it was Portlands.
Instead of taking Michael Jordan with the second pick in the 1984 NBA draft, they went for the big man in Sam Bowie and passed on the greatest player in the history of the NBA.
That thought came to mind last night ...
The Chicago Cubs Will Win the World Series in 2010ù”If”
Posted: 2nd April 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in MLB
I think I wrote this story several years ago. Why is it with the Cubs that every year seems like the movie Groundhog Day, where the same scenario keeps repeating itself year in and year out?
Of course, their favorite saying is, "Wait until next year."
But what if this really is next year?
They have to win the World Series sometime. What if in 2010, that time has come?
I'm not going to ...
Who Would You Pick Between Kobe Bryant, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson?
Posted: 22nd March 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in NBA
A while back, Rick Reilly, then with Sports Illustrated, wrote a column declaring that Kobe Bryant was better than Michael Jordan.
I won't give credence to that article by starting that debate, but there is an intriguing comparison involving Kobe that I think is much more worthy of discussion.
How would Kobe Bryant compare to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson?
If you were going to start a team, which one would you pick, and in ...
Should Dwight Howard Be Suspended for His Hard Foul on Derrick Rose?
Posted: 12th March 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in NBA
As Yogi Berra would say, it was like deja vu all over again watching Dwight Howard swat Derrick Rose out of the air and send him crashing to the court last night in Orlando on the TNT Game of the Night.
The previous encounter happened on Feb. 10 when Rose fell hard on his backside and suffered a bruised right hip, causing him to leave the game.
Some people questioned that play, ...
Seattle’s Milton Bradley Needs To Let His Hatred for the Chicago Cubs Go
Posted: 10th March 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in MLB
"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggonit, people like me."
That was not a quote from Milton Bradley, formerly of the Chicago Cubs, and about a fourth of the teams in baseball.
He's probably not good enough. He certainly wasn't in Chicago.
I don't know how smart he is, but does a guy that acts like him have anything upstairs?
As for people liking him—well you know the answer to that one.
People can't ...
White Sox Owner Jerry Reinsdorf Better Stay Out of Chicago Cubs Business
Posted: 13th February 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in MLB
White Sox general manager Kenny Williams is known for saying, "He better stay out of Chicago White Sox business." That was a reference to Frank Thomas commenting on the team when he was no longer playing for them.
Perhaps Kenny should tell his hypocritical owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, to stay out of Chicago Cubs business.
Reinsdorf has been raising a stink in Arizona because of a proposed surcharge to help with building the Cubs a ...
Can the Chicago Bears Turn the Team Around the Same Way the Blackhawks Did?
Posted: 8th January 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in NFL
I know I'm going to get grief for this, but the thought crossed my mind the other day, and like Degrassi High on the N network, I go there.
Watching that debacle of a press conference the Bears put on the other dayùand the results that came from itùmade me think back to something that happened a few years back that changed the fate of another franchise in Chicagoùthe Blackhawks.
Hockey was ...
CHICAGO BEARS PICK MONEY OVER WINNING BY DECIDING TO KEEP LOVIE SMITH
Posted: 6th January 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in NFL
Watching team president (accountant) Ted Phillips standing up at the podium representing the accounting firm of McCaskey and McCaskey made my mind drift back to the Academy Awards as I awaited him ripping open the envelope and announcing, and the winner is...
As it turns out, the winners were Phillips, GM Jerry Angelo, and head coach Lovie Smith. The losers were Chicago Bear fans who are going to be stuck with ...
Are the Chicago Cubs Trying Out for the “Biggest Loser” TV Show?
Posted: 1st January 2010 by Darrell Horwitz in MLB
Watching highlights of new Chicago Cub centerfielder Marlon Byrd running the bases makes me wonder if the Cubs are trying out for ôThe Biggest Loser.ö
á
If you have ever had your girlfriend ask you, ôHoney, does my butt look big in these jeans,ö you know where IÆm coming from. We all know what the politically correct answer is, but boy does Marlon Byrd look big in his baseball pants.

Is Chicago Bears Quarterback Jay Cutler a Bust?
Posted: 29th December 2009 by Darrell Horwitz in NFL
The timing might not be perfect for this after Jay Cutler threw for four touchdowns, including the game-winning 39-yard touchdown pass to Devin Aromashadu in overtime to defeat theáMinnesota Vikings last night, but the question has to be asked: Is Jay Cutler a bust?
Cutler has been the target of critics from local columnists and sportsáradio talkáshow hosts to national TV talking heads, not to mention raisingáthe ire ofáthe local fan ...
