The Littlest Christmas Tree: Pound for Pound Who is the Best Calgary Flame of All Time
Posted: 24th December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
The Calgary Flames have always been known for their physical "in your face" brand of hockey. It has been a style that has brought them success of late, despite not having the most talented team.
Even in their days while based in Atlanta, the Flames have been large and aggressive. In fact Chicago Blackhawks great Stan Mikita once said after playing against them, "It was like skating in a forest of ...
My Boy’s Gonna Play In The Big Leagues: The Legend Of George Pelawa
Posted: 21st December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
By all accounts George Pelawa was destined for greatness.
At eighteen-years-old he was physically imposing, standing 6'3" and weighing 235 lbs, and his hands were as soft as the way he spoke which is why the Calgary Flames couldn't resistáselecting the native of Bemidji, Minnesota, 16th overall in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft.
Very few ever saw him play, but the one's that didásaid he handled the puck like a 5'10", 170-pound ...
A Star On The Rise: Despite Being Cut ,Tyler Seguin Is the Real Deal
Posted: 18th December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
My initial reaction to hearing that 17-year-old Plymouth Whalers sniper Tyler Seguin had been released from Team Canada's World Junior squad was one of disbelief.
After all, he has been amongst the Ontario Hockey League's top three scorers all season long.
In 31 games so far this year, Seguin has scored 26 goals and added 26 assists.
It is little wonder that Central Scouting has had such a hard time deciding on who ...

Schenn-Shank Redemption: Can Luke Schenn Redeem Himself In Toronto
Posted: 15th December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
It is said to be the toughest positions in hockey to step into the NHL as a 20-year-old outta the ranks of junior hockey, let alone an 18-year-old.
Yet Luke Schenn made the transition into the NHL last season smoother than a Luther Vandross album.
While other young defenceman like Drew Doughty struggled at times during last season, Schenn excelled at every area of his game playing upwards of 26 minutes per ...
Not to sure what went on this morning, but I got up to read that after 113 reads and Scott Wheldon said he liked it, that my latest Bleacher Report article "Montreal Canadiens Centennial Season Anything but Celebratory" was deleted.
I didn't curse, or say anything outta the ordinary...did say the season was more up and down then a Jenna Jameson flick, but I have heard worse in the school yards.
Anyhow ...
Montreal Canadiens Centennial Season Anything But Celebratory
Posted: 12th December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
As a Calgary Flames fan, I could care about the Montreal Canadiens winning about as much as I care that Oprah is retiring in 2011.
That being said, as aáCanadian hockey fan, there was a big part of me that hoped the Habs could win it all last season and keep their streak of hoisting a Stanley Cup in every decade alive.
Instead, they crashed and burned faster than Tiger Woods fleeing ...
The Ones That Got Away: Calgary Flames’ Top Five Castaways
Posted: 10th December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
Every team in the NHL has had a player or two that has gotten away. A young player that the organization gives up on, only to watch him flourish in another city.
In the hockey world it is the equivalent of your wife leaving you for your best friend as it is painful to watch, and you get the constant reminder every time they come to town for a visit.
Maybe no ...
On the Hot Seat: Could Rene Bourque Be On the Move?
Posted: 8th December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
Now before all you hard core Bleacher Report fanatics post comments that say I have gone and hit the chronic worse than Snoop Dogg and completely smoked myself stupid, read the body of work below, as this entire scenario ain't as dumb as it sounds.
Rene Bourque has been nothing short of brilliant this season for the Calgary Flames, in fact through the first month of the season he carried the team offensively while Jarome Iginla and ...
Looking Sharp: Toronto Maple Leafs Look To Aquire Patrick Sharp
Posted: 2nd December 2009 by Daniel Sallows in NHL
On the eve of a press conference set in Chicago to announce the signing of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith to multi-year contract extensions, Leafs fans sit anxiously salivating.
Why?
Well they are one of just a few clubs that the Blackhawks could dump some salary on in order to allocate enough cap space to lock up their young core of players.
Itáis the price a team like Chicago has to ...
