White Sox Don’t Need Cliff Lee: Replacement For Peavy Is in House
Posted: 9th July 2010 by Cregen McMinn in MLB
Flash back to July 31st 2009. The trading deadline. Jake Peavy agrees to come to the White Sox.
The pretty girl at the dance who had already snubbed the White Sox, has now changed her mind and has agreed to leave sunny San Diego and come north to the south side of Chicago.
White Sox fans, myself included, have never been happier to trade for an injured pitcher. Sure he won't ...
It’s over folks. The winning streak has come to an end.
After winning 11 games in a row, the Chicago White Sox were finally defeated and once again, it was at the hands of the Chicago Cubs.
As the White Sox walked off the field as losers for only the second time in their last 17 games, what’s next for the South Siders?
The last time a White Sox team won 10 games in ...
Chicago White Sox: Jake Peavy Not Interested in Rebuilding
Posted: 12th June 2010 by Cregen McMinn in MLB
As a fan, I try not to be too harsh on players when they speak their mind. After all, don't we as fans want to hear the truth?
But in the case of Jake Peavy and his feelings about sticking with the White Sox through a rebuilding phase, I'd rather he kept them to himself.
On Thursday, Peavy was asked about the position the Sox are currently in and the possibility that some ...
"Good pitching beats good hitting."
Thanks for the insight, Grandpa, but times have changed.
An updated version of that old baseball motto should read, "Good pitching with no hitting, will get you nowhere."
A perfect example of this is the 2010 Chicago White Sox.
They have a rotation that rivals any team in baseball and a lineup that rivals any team that has ever lost 90 games in a season.
A typical lineup has ...
After game one of 162, the White Sox couldn’t look better.
Buehrle and the 'pen made the Cleveland Indians look like, well, the Cleveland Indians.
The lineup showed a perfect combination of power and speed.
And last, but not least, Ozzie made it through one game without starting Omar Vizquel. Kudos all the way around.
The question that comes to mind now is, how excited should we as White Sox fans be about the ...
Ozzie Guillen Coming up with Creative Ways To Weaken Sox Lineup
Posted: 25th March 2010 by Cregen McMinn in MLB
Last season Ozzie put together 126 different lineups over the course of the season. If recent rumors are any indication, the White Sox lineup will continue to be in flux this season.
As reported by Mark Gonzales, Ozzie has floated two ideas recently, both of which gave me the same knee-jerk reaction of “SERIOUSLY!?”
1. Batting Mark Kotsay THIRD against right-handed pitchers
Now don’t get me ...
The Four Players the Chicago White Sox Must Keep Healthy
Posted: 17th March 2010 by Cregen McMinn in MLB
Every team has one or two players that they absolutely cannot afford to get hurt. Recently the Twins saw one of their “must have” players go down in closer Joe Nathan. That got me thinking about the White Sox and who is absolutely vital to their season. I’ve come up with four guys that must stay healthy for the Sox to contend in the AL Central.
The first is Jake Peavy. ...
Small talk is almost never fun. Small talk while being cornered in an elevator is even less fun.
Such was the case for me yesterday on the way down to the first floor from my job on the eighth floor to go home for the night. I stepped on the elevator and some guy from a different office got on as well.
He saw I was wearing a ...
The thought of trading young talent away is always a scary one.
“But what if he comes back and kills us for years?”
“Who knows how good he’ll become!”
“Uhhh…two words, Lou Brock.”
Those might be some of the thoughts running through White Sox fans’ heads when the news about a possible Adrian Gonzalez to the Sox for Gordon Beckham and others came across the wires on Sunday. I’ll confess that I too ...
Handicapping the AL Central: Who’s No. 1 Going Into the Season
Posted: 24th February 2010 by Cregen McMinn in MLB
The 2010 AL Central is a division of the "haves" and the have-nots". In this division preview I'll let you know who has the best rotation, best lineup, the biggest home field advantage, the best individual player, and last but not least the best chance at winning the division this season.
While the AL Central lacks the overall talent level of a division like the AL East, there is plenty of ...
