Atlanta Braves: Done Dealing? A Look at the Roster (with Eric Hinske)
Posted: 5th January 2010 by Cameron Britt in MLB
I think we can go ahead and throw out the sexy trade rumors that we've all heardá(and which I promoted here and here ) sinceáthe Vazquez trade.
Frank Wren said today during the Braves' introduction of Troy Glaus that the Braves are likely to only pursue a minor piece or two from here on out (via David O'Brien's 4:58 post here ) to fill the bench and solidify remaining holes management ...
Here we sit in the first week of 2010, and the Atlanta Braves still, seemingly, have a hole to fill in the outfield.
With a starting group currently composed of Cabrera-McLouth-Diaz (the Braves will probably end up taking the Hanson route with Heyward), you can kind of see why.
With that in mind, though, you have to think that the Braves aren't going to be looking to break the bank (sorry, no ...
The 2000s, at least first half of them, were a good decade for the Atlanta Braves.
With superstars plentiful throughout, making this list was difficult.
But, I was finally able to assemble a catcher, first baseman, second baseman, short stop, third baseman, three outfielders, five starters, a reliever, and a closer (with the year that each had their immaculate performance).
With eight players coming from just two seasons, it may look like I ...
Marlins Slugger Dan Uggla a Fit for Atlanta Braves?
Posted: 26th December 2009 by Cameron Britt in MLB
About a month ago, I would have completely dismissed any type of Dan Uggla to the Atlanta Braves rumors as just that, rumors.
But, with the Braves still having a hole in left field (a position that many say Uggla could play)áand the Marlins seemingly eager to trade their arbitration-eligible second baseman,áyou have to at least think about it.
Let's first examine what Uggla brings to the table.
For his career, the soon-to-be ...
Troy Glaus To Sign with Braves: I Got Ya Right-Handed Power Right Here!
Posted: 23rd December 2009 by Cameron Britt in MLB
Yesterday, a number of Braves fans gathered up their torches and pitch forks and started to load up a wagon bound for the Mexican beach on which Frank Wren is vacationing.
"Why did we trade our ACE for a fourth outfielder?!?!
"We need power!!!á Not a s%*##y Yankee scrub!!!"
Well, today I hope that at least a few have jumped off of that wagon, as the Braves acquired their big right-handed bat that ...
Hold Your Horses: Is Derek Lowe Worth What the Talking Heads Are Saying?
Posted: 16th December 2009 by Cameron Britt in MLB
A couple of days ago when the news broke of an imminent Roy Halladay-Cliff Lee-prospects swap within hours of the Red Sox acquiring John Lackey, a lot of Braves fans (including myself) peeked our heads up thinking that these moves signaled Derek Lowe's albatross of a contract finding its way out of time.
And, for me, it still does.
Seeing as how he's the only reliable 200 inning guy left out there, ...
Rafael Soriano for Jesse Chavez: Braves Drop Ex-Closer for…Who?
Posted: 10th December 2009 by Cameron Britt in MLB
I learned of the news today in my fourth-period class. And when I saw it, I scratched my head a bit."So, the Braves just traded what likely would've been the second-hottest closer commodity for...Jesse Chavez?"I'm sure many of you shared the same sentiment. So, I did what comes natural.I Googled Jesse Chavez. This is what I saw: 26 years old, only one sub-three ERA year in the minors (2.22 iná11 appearances a couple ...
Billy and Takashi: Reactions to a Gun-Slinging Braves’ GM
Posted: 4th December 2009 by Cameron Britt in MLB
Well, the last two days were exciting, weren't they?
Two legitimate end-of-the-'pen options coming in.
Sure, they're 38 and 39, but Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito's track records indicate that they know what they're doing.
Wagner is sitting just a few saves short of 400 with 1,092 career Ks.
Saito sports a career 2.05 ERA that he has accumulated since turningá36 ináhis first Major League season with the Dodgers.
Despite their injury 'issues' (and I ...
What Would it Take to Get Carl Crawford to Brandish a Tomahawk?
Posted: 28th November 2009 by Cameron Britt in MLB
For those of you who have actually looked over my profile, you know that Carl Crawford listed first on my Short List under "Favorite Athletes." To expand on that positioning, Carl Crawford is my favorite baseball player/athlete/celebrity/everything. Speed, defense, average, a little pop, and hustle. What's not to love? So, when I saw this article on the St. Pete Times site, you can believe that a ...
With Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez's departures nearly a given in Atlanta, the Braves have to look towards the Free Agent market for their closer. (Well, they don't have to, but who is going to trade away a legitimate closer this offseason?) Names that jump out include Brandon Lyon, Fernando Rodney, and Jose Valverde. But combinations of ability and contractual issues make these guys relatively poor ...
