Beyond the Blueshirts is one of the most informative Ranger blogs on the web, especially when it comes to providing insight on the Russian hockey world. For example, yesterday’s post regarding the possibility of the Rangers bringing back Nikolai Zherdev for a second tour of duty after the team refused to match the salary awarded to the Russian dangler in arbitration last summer.

John Tortorella Talks Healthy Scratches Gilroy and Lisin
Posted: 2nd April 2010 by Broadway Hockey Daily in NHL
At times this season, forward Enver Lisin and defenseman Matt Gilroy have been pleasant surprises, but they’ve also been equally as frustrating at other times. Lately, both have been seeing a lot of action from the bench though.
Here is head coach John Tortorella to talk about why:
On Lisin
“He’s a guy who can skate with skill, but we’d like him to fit in the game a little bit better. Right ...
With the Rangers fighting for their playoff lives, it doesn’t seem like many players are looking beyond their next game, but that’s not how it works for everyone.
Erik Christensen is a good example; you can be sure he’s focused on each and every game, but he isn’t just fighting for a playoff spot, he’s also fighting for a job for next season.
Larry Brooks of the NY Post has the ...
As we enter the final weeks of the regular season, the attention continues to shift toward June’s Entry Draft for those teams that won’t be participating in the postseason.
While the Rangers’ playoff hopes, slim as they may be, are still alive, the teams below them in the standings continue to jockey for draft positions.
Here’s a look at the bottom of the standings chart:
21. Minnesota: 80 points, five games remaining
22. Atlanta: ...
New York Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist Might Actually Get a Night Off
Posted: 1st April 2010 by Broadway Hockey Daily in NHL
I’ve mentioned this a couple of times over the last week or so: Henrik Lundqvist has been working hard. He’s played in every game but one since the Olympics, he started in the Olympics, and he’s started 19 of the last 20 Rangers games overall.
So it’s safe to say he’s been busy, but Larry Brooks of the NY Post is reporting that coach John Tortorella is going to try to ...

The Rangers are down in Florida this weekend for back-to-back games against the Lightning and Panthers, but it’s possible that they could get two points automatically if Tampa is forced to forfeit Friday night’s game, according to Rick Carpiniello of The Journal News.
Carp writes:
"A giant compressor blew at the St. Pete Times Forum yesterday, and the Lightning’s home ice turned into a flood. According to reports, it might ...
The other day, we ran a video of an NHL playoff commercial featuring Mark Messier . Why? Because I thought it was cool. Well I was reading Puck Daddy today and apparently this video caused quite a few fan produced spin-offs.
Here is my favorite one (click on the headline to view):
There are a lot more than just that and Puck Daddy is soliciting for more so hopefully there will ...
7:41 PM – First period comes to a close with the Islanders ahead, 2-0. Nothing happening offensively for the Rangers. They’ll need a big change of pace and strategy in the second period if they hope to win this game.
7:40 PM – As a result of the Okposo penalty, the Rangers get an abridged power play chance, but can’t make anything happen. Why not get Locke out there on the ...

The Rangers have signed Cameron Talbot, a 22-year-old goalie from the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
