After spending the last few drafts on skilled position players, itÆs time for the Oakland Raiders to fortify the offensive line. So, with the eighth selection in the 2010 NFL draft, the Raiders will take Anthony Davis from Rutgers.

ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper says that Davis is the ômost naturally giftedö of the offensive linemen in the draft. Davis is projected to be better in pass protection than Bryan Bulaga, ...
Matt Holliday Re-Signing with Cardinals Is Bad News for Cubs Fans
Posted: 5th January 2010 by Bob Warja in MLB
ItÆs truly happy ôHollidayö in St. Louis, though us Cubs fans may not enjoy our New Year's quite as much now.
For the Cubs division challenger and long-time bitter rival St. Louis Cardinals put a dagger into the rest of the division by announcing the team has re-signed free agent outfielder Matt Holliday to a seven-year, $120 million contract.
It's a lot to pay for a player who seemingly had no other ...

Sure, firing offensive coordinator Ron Turner is a step in the right direction. But what about the men who hired him in the first place? When will the Bears hold the feet of Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo to the fire?
Add to that the name of Bears president Ted Phillips, and you have the Three Stooges.
To the fans, today's news that head case, er, head coach Lovie Smith will returnáis ...

While the team isn't likely to make any announcements one way or the other in the next couple ofádays, it would not surprise me if the Bears go in-house for a replacement for Lovie Smith.
Dave Toub, current Special Teams Coordinator,áhas completed six seasons with the Bears. His teams have finished best in the league twice (2006 and 2007) andáhave ranked in the top third for five consecutive seasons.á

Come to Think of it: Ben Sheets Latest Name on Cubs Rumor Mill
Posted: 4th January 2010 by Bob Warja in MLB
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports has a new article in which he tries to match up the remaining 10 free agents with the clubs most likely to sign them. Rosenthal has the Cubs nabbing free agent Ben Sheets.
Sheets would be an interesting name if his contract demands aren't too pricey. A one year contract for a low base with incentives would not only make sense, it just mightáfit into Jim ...
While Cubs GM Jim Hendry continues to insist that Carlos Zambrano isn't available, rumors to the contrary continue to surface.
The New York Post seems to think that Zambrano is readily available.
Sherman wrote today in the New York Post that "two AL officials say the Cubs are definitely dangling Zambrano," while acknowledging Zambrano's unwillingness to approve a trade.
Zambrano, 28, has a full no-trade clause and at least $53.75MM remaining on his ...
2009 was a disappointing year, once full of promise, but ended with drear.
Despite three consecutive seasons of winning ball, the Cubs once again failed to win it all.
Still we come out to Wrigley in record numbers, the fans cheering loudly while management slumbers.
Sweet Lou lived up to his name, that he seems so burned out is definitely a shame.
Randy Wells came out of nowhere to surprise, you could see the ...
Bears-Lions: Chicago Loss Would Hasten Lovie Smith’s Departure
Posted: 31st December 2009 by Bob Warja in NFL
Despite the goodwill generated from the Chicago Bears improbable win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, a Bears loss to the hapless Lions this Sunday might be a fatal blow to head coach Lovie Smith.
A loss to Detroit on Sunday could make firing Smith that much easier for Jerry Angelo. That is, assuming Angelo himself is still here after the season.
For if it were up to me, I would ...
Come to Think of It: The Chicago Cubs Decade In Review
Posted: 31st December 2009 by Bob Warja in MLB
The 2000Æs were a roller coaster of a decade for Cubs fans. From the excitement of the 2003 playoffs and the 97 win season in 2008, to the disappointment of the Bartman-led collapse and the futile effort against the Dodgers, there were many ups and downs.

While my distinguished colleague Tab Bamford anoints the decade as the worst one ever for Cubs fans, I say that while it was definately gut ...
