Weekend Mess Salvaged

Posted: 20th September 2009 by Blake VandeBunte in MLB
Two out of three would have been great against the Twins this past weekend, but the Tigers will have to settle for just one win.  On the line on Sunday was the Tigers either extending their AL Central lead to three games or having the pesky Twins grind it down to just a single game. Since getting to a season-high 14 games over the .500 mark, the Tigers are only 4-9 ...

It’s Go Time

The Detroit Tigers have had plenty of chances to extend their lead in the AL Central over the past week and a half as they played all of their games against the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays. Sadly, things didn’t play out the way Tigers fans wanted them to as the Tigers went only 3-7 against that less-than-powerful duo. They were on the brink of locking up the AL ...

Ernie Harwell to be Honored

According to the Detroit Free Press there will be a video shown honoring Harwell and Ernie will show his thanks to the fans for their support over the ...

Big news this week as Spot Starters favorite, Derek Jeter, tied Lou Gehrig for the most hits ever in a Yankees uniform with 2,721 hits.  That’s an impressive total and Jeter and Gehrig each had phenomenal careers.  Gehrig is in the Hall of Fame and Jeter is as close to a Hall of Fame lock as you can find.  However, did you know that three Tigers had more hits wearing the ...

The Tigers Need Porcello

Quick show of hands (sort of), how many people out there thought that Rick Porcello would be this good this soon?  I was cautiously optimistic, but the guy has been so, so impressive.  Today on ESPN.com, Jerry Crasnick breaks down the best young arms in the game who will get a lot of rest as the regular season winds to a close.  Porcello ranks second on the list right behind Joba Chamberlain of ...
