Detroit Tigers: Down on the Farm, 2010 Top Position Player Prospects
Posted: 11th April 2010 by Blake VandeBunte in MLB
The Down on the Farm series began last week, as I examined the Tigers' top pitching prospects entering the 2010 season. Today, we briefly examine some position players to keep an eye on this season.
COMING SOON:
1B/DH RYAN STRIEBY 2009: AA Erie Stats: .303 average, .427 OB% 18 doubles, 1 triple, 19 home runs, 58 RBI
The 6′5″, right-handed first baseman has been quietly moving through the Tiger farm system ...
I’m back. It feels good. As you have probably gathered, I have been a bit too busy to keep up with the site. However, I’m going to try and do my best from this point on out.
As I write here on early Sunday afternoon, OUR Detroit Tigers sit at the top of the AL Central standings (with those pesky Twins) with a record of 4-1. I have only been able ...
The 2010 Detroit Tigers Opening Day 25-Man Roster
Posted: 30th March 2010 by Blake VandeBunte in MLB
The end of March is rapidly approaching. We are now less than a week away from opening day. With that in mind, I decided to announce my 25-man roster based upon what I have witnessed so far this spring.
As the Tigers are preparing to trim down the roster , I decided to take a stab at it as well. Rather than predict who I believe the Tigers brass will select, ...
Today Detroit defeated Houston 17 to 7. No, folks, it’s not preseason football that I am referring to. That was, in fact, todays spring training final score. Besides, we all know that the Lions' defense can’t hold an opposing team to just seven points.
Prior to that pitcher's duel (note sarcasm), I had a chance to watch last season's draft picks Jacob Turner and Andy Oliver in a scrimmage game on a practice ...
Rookie Scott Sizemore clearly has the inside track on the starting 2B job vacated by Placido Poloanco’s return to Philadelphia. Sizmore has never had an at-bat in the big leagues but has been a very good hitter in the minor leagues. We have a fair amount of statistics on him from his days in the minors, but rookies are just so hard to predict.
The 2010 Tigers are an interesting ...
Casey Crosby had a lot of hype around him when he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers back in the 5th round of the 2007 draft.á
The Tigers then overpaid to keep Crosby out of college and in the Tigers organization.á Crosby then reported to the Tigers instructional league, promptly hurt his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery.
Crosby missed the rest of 2007 and most of 2008, pitching 4.2 innings in ...
IÆve learned to expect nothing from Joel Zumaya.á I also feel as though I made this exact same post each of the last two years.á If the Tigers are able to get anything out of Zumaya in 2010, we should all just consider it a bonus.
In spite of all of his injuries, Zumaya remains one the hardest throwers in the big leagues.á If he is on and healthy, there are ...
Predicting Ryan Raburn’s 2010 Season for the Detroit Tigers
Posted: 7th January 2010 by Blake VandeBunte in MLB
Ryan Raburn was downright terrible in 2008. Look it up, he was.
That being said, as bad as he was in 2008, he was terrific in 2009. The 28-year-old Raburn set several career highs for the club last season and continued to be a valuable defensive player due to his versatility.
With all of that being said, what kind of player will Raburn be in 2010? As the roster stands right now, ...
Gerald Laird and his little brother were arrested in Arizona for getting into a fight after a Phoenix Suns game. This just doesn’t seem right, does it? Laird seemed reasonably mild mannered during his first season with the Tigers, but I guess I don’t really know the guy.
This isn’t a Gilbert Arenas situation as there were no real threats and no guns. However, Laird and his brother allegedly assaulted the ...
Detroit Tigers Offseason: A Month Late and a Million Short
Posted: 1st January 2010 by Blake VandeBunte in MLB
Alright, my thoughts on the moves so far this offseason are late. At any rate, hate them or love them, here they are.
It would be an understatement to simply say that the Detroit Tigers have entered a rebuilding phase.
It has become a reality that we are all dealing with in our own ways. Common solutions include denial, rage, optimism, sadness, and/or the bottle of your choice.
Our offseason activity thus far has done everything ...
