The Edmonton Falcons…Er…Thunder…Er…Oilers Take the Ice
Posted: 13th November 2009 by Antony Ta in NHL
Wow: what a string of injuries.
In addition to the already long string of injuries on the Oilers roster, today there was news that both Fernando Pisani and Patrick O'Sullivan have sustained injuries.
Though the contribution from Springfield Falcons' call-ups have been amiable so far, one wonders how much longer the Oilers will have to keep going to the well before it's dry. Will we have to start calling up Thunder ...
It's been a while since Ryan O'Marra was one of the key pieces of the Ryan Smyth trade puzzle.
Now he's the forgotten jigsaw.
It took an injury to the other key piece of the same trade, Kenta's kid Robert, to finally usher him to the stage in Edmonton. The Oilers playing in Ottawa and Springfield's close proximity to there didn't hurt.
With Ryan Stone and Gilbert Brule already on the roster and ...
Jean-Sebastien Giguere to Detroit Red Wings: A Match Made in Heaven?
Posted: 10th November 2009 by Antony Ta in NHL
Jean-Sebastien Giguere, the star of the (Mighty) Ducks' 2003 Western Conference Quarterfinals victory over the President's Trophy winners from Michigan, was quoted today as saying he'd rather retire than spend the season backing up Jonas Hiller.
Returning from injury, Giguere replaced Justin Poggeùwho was sent down to the Duck pondùin the rotation and is not happy at the prospect of spending the rest of his days as a Duck relegated to ...
There's a rumour out there that the Oilers are scouting the Tampa Bay Lightning, that came to me by way of reading a post over at The Copper & Blue .
Barring suggestions of Olympic scouting (Stamkos?), there are a few interesting trade possibilities for the Oilers.
Many are suggesting the deal would be for Ryan Malone or Steve Downie , two players who would look great in Oilers uniforms.
I think it ...
Right now, the prospect of Svensson flying down the wing flanked by Eberle and Hartikainen (or Lander, or Vandevelde, or Nash), is something I quite look forward to.
Oilers Prospects:
Jordan Eberle - WHL Player of the Month - 12 GP - 12-13-25
Charles Linglet - 13 GP - 5-11-16
Devan Dubnyk - 11 GP - 4-6, 3.02 GAA, 0.919 SV%
Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson - 16 GP - 7-5-12
Former Camp Invites:
Derek Hulak - fifth in the ...
With the Vancouver 2010 Olympics coming up, I thought it might be interesting to re-visit a past Olympics that had a very interesting story line.
The year was 1994 and it was the XVII Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
Interesting tidbits:
Corey Hirsch was CanadaÆs gold medal hope in net. Tommy Salo was a young buck tending the twine for Sweden. Petr Nedved was playing for Team Canada. Greg ...
That image is a preview of Shawn Horcoff 's job on Tuesday night, as one of my favorite players in Paul Stastny rolls into town along with the rest of the Colorado Avalanche.
The Oilers will have their hands full with the revamped Avs who are leading the Western Conference with 18 points. More so than Edmonton, Avs' fans have found their team in the standings where no pundits would ...
Rexall Place is a shrine among shrines, and everyone is welcome inside.
A recent article on OilersNation about "the most annoying fans" roused my interest.
Many Oilers fans submitted accounts of their own experiences with these kinds of fans and I can't say I disagree for the most part.
When it comes to the mumbling drunks who call into the radio show after the game and suggest that we trade the whole team ...
This time last year, a disgruntled Raffi Torres fan would openly state their regret at the Oilers acquiring Gilbert Brule.
Around the same time in 2008, your friendly neighbourhood Oilers fan would express their disappointment in Dustin Penner's level of conditioning, or smugly state that he was a "big fat" mistake of Kevin Lowe's.
Heck, even MacT put in his own two cents with regards to the big winger.
Well, we can forget ...
There are many reasons for optimism for the Edmonton Oilers of 2009-10.
I think I have to eat my words when it comes to goaltending and Nikolai "Shabbybulin."
His recent goaltending efforts remind me a lot of one of my childhood heroes, Arturs Irbe.
I must admit, Shabby has got some game up his sleeve that I didn't expect.
His unorthodox goaltending style and willingness to battle is reminiscent of a goaltending age ...
